Paul Bearer Comments on his WWE Return

Percy “Paul Bearer” Pringle has wrote a new blog on his website regarding his return to WWE on last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Here’s part of what he wrote:

Where do I begin my friends? I guess we should go with the “Reader’s Digest” version, since those of you that visit here often know I can ramble on and on. Let’s just cut to the chase. About four months ago I recieved a call from the WWE creative folks asking if I had any interest in returning to the company. Of course this totally caught me off guard.

Just to step back for a moment, many are aware that my wife passed away from three battles with cancer, on January 31, 2009; and my life took some major turns following that tragic life changing event. We were married 30-years.

Since my departure from WWE at the GREAT AMERICAN BASH on June 24, 2004, I had virtually divorced myself from professional wrestling completely and returned fulltime to Funeral Service, which some may not realize that I have a degree in Mortuary Science and I am a legit licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. I managed a small Funeral Home and Crematory here on the Gulf Coast.

In the early Spring of 2010, I decided to test the pro wrestling waters again, and began doing some independent events, autograph signings, etc., around the country to see if the passion was still there for me. Of course it was, and it will always will be. I discovered that doing these events took me away from the loneliness I was experiencing without my wife, Dianna. I was actually having fun again; and these days if it’s not fun, you can leave me out of it.

During the six-years I had been away from WWE it would be a major understatement to say that many things had changed since I signed my first contract there on December 22, 1990. We started negotiations for my return. I still had many doubts if this was what I really wanted to do. Through much prayer, and conversations with my immediate family and close friends, I decided that if all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place, that this was meant to be.

I had to fly to Pittsburgh, PA and go through major physical and mental examinations; which to my dismay, all the results came back positive. My final question to myself was… “What would my late wife Dianna want me to do?”. That answer was the easiest of all… she would say, “Get your ass back on the road!”. So….

…here I am. My contract actually became effective on August 1st, and sworn to secrecy, it was extremely hard to keep so many of my contacts from knowing what the future was going to hold in store for me.

Many have asked for the details of my contract, such as it’s length, even monetary details, and the like. Sorry you won’t get that confidential information from me. I will say that a clause in my contract allows for me to continue working independent events, if I desire, and as long as they don’t interfere with my WWE commitments. The bottomline is that I consider myself very lucky, at the tender age of 56, to get another chance at the top of our game. I am truly blessed.

My SMACKDOWN re-debut to the company was set to be taped this past Tuesday evening, in Bloomington, IL. Getting there, staying at a discreet hotel, sneeking into the venue, and hiding out in the dressing area until my time in the event came, is a story onto itself. Most of the wrestlers on the card that night didn’t even know I was there.

A new era has begun in my life. And I have you the fans who made the Percy Pringle / Paul Bearer characters to thank. Notwithstanding, those within WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT who continue to have confidence in my old school abilities. It doesn’t matter if it lasts a week, a month, or five more years. It’s all good.

As always, I do my best to remain accessable to you folks; and I do read and answer all of my email on a timely basis. Unfortunately, you may not get the answers from me that that you may desire. I just tell it like it is with no apologies.

Former WWE Star Giant Gonzalez passes away

Former WWE performer Jorge González (a/k/a Giant González), the tallest grappler in professional wrestling history, passed away Wednesday in San Martin, Argentina due to complications from diabetes, reports Argentinian news outlets Impulso Baires and Minutouno. He was 44 years old.

Sources from González’ hometown, El Colorado, confirm that he was taken to San Martin after “suffering a decompensation.” He later passed.

González had been suffering from poor health in recent years due to the effects of his long battle with diabetes as he used a dialysis machine to treat kidney failure and was wheelchair bound. He was scheduled to return to the United States in May 2010 for an appearance at the “Legends of the Ring” wrestling convention in Monroe, New Jersey, but ultimately canceled due to health concerns.

González was a basketball star in Argentina before being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the third round of the 1988 NBA Draft. When his NBA career didn’t pan out, Jim Herd and Jim Ross spearheaded the Turner organization to sign the 7’7″ giant to a wrestling contract. After a year of training, he was introduced to fans as “El Gigante” on May 19, 1990 at the WCW pay-per-view, Capital Combat. He enjoyed a two-year run as a fan favorite before leaving the promotion in 1992.

González then joined the World Wrestling Federation and debuted as “Giant González” at the 1993 Royal Rumble, where he eliminated The Undertaker from the Rumble match despite not being an official participant. The move laid the foundation for a rivalry that lasted the length of Gonzalez’ WWF career as he parted ways with the company shortly after being put to rest in a “Rest in Peace Match” at the 1993 SummerSlam.

González continued wrestling in Japan before retiring in 1995 due to sciatic nerve pain. He returned to Argentina to settle in his hometown, where he had been living since 1998.

González is the fourth former WWE talent to pass away within the past seven weeks, following Lance Cade, Luna Vachon and Mike Shaw (a/k/a Bastion Booger).

Forgot about a Heel Turn for John Cena

According to one person who works for WWE shop and knows the numbers, he doesn’t see a heel turn happening in the near future. Cena is said to be too valuable in that department and it would be too much of a risk even if PPV numbers and TV ratings went up as a result.

According to Dave Meltzer, one idea was for Cena to play a role similar to Bret Hart where he’d be a heel for adults but still be a babyface for the kids.

Shawn Michaels talks on leaving and if he will go to TNA

WWE legend Shawn Michaels answered a batch of questions sent in from fans on his YouTube page. Michaels answered questions about a number of topics – including whether he will ever wrestle again, if he’d consider returning to television in a non-wrestling capacity, if he’d ever go to TNA and more. Here’s what Michaels said about:

Retirement: “It was time. It was time for HBK to pack up and move on. There isn’t anything I left undid. There isn’t any match that I wish I had. There is absolutely nothing that I didn’t do for me. I know there are a lot of matches people would have liked to have seen, but for my wish list, I was fortunate enough to accomplish far beyond anything I possibly could have accomplished. That was the reason I was ready to go. If there was even one little thing out there, I would have stayed around. Rest assured, there are no regrets and there are no ‘I wish I would have’ for me in WWE.”

His Future & Whether He’d Go To TNA: “No, I’m not going to come back to wrestle. I’m going to do my best to keep my word willing. I’m not going anywhere else. I’m going to be a WWE guy, the good Lord willing, until the day I die,” Michaels said. “You’re not going to see me show up on someone else’s wrestling program. I hope to make some appearances throughout the years. Hopefully in the not too distant future, I will see many of you again.”

Plans on how the WWE will improve the Tag Team division

After doing away with the Unified Tag Team Titles a few weeks ago, WWE has been wanting to make the belts more important and create more tag teams to contend for the titles.

Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre will face The Hart Dynasty in a non-title match on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown but it’s not confirmed yet if they will get a title shot at Night of Champions. It is possible WWE may add the match at the last minute.

There has been discussion this past week about building the tag titles up. The idea is to make a few regular teams on both RAW and SmackDown so the champions will have several credible challengers.

One idea is to do a Survivor Series style match at the pay-per-view in November with tag teams from both brands. The match wouldn’t necessarily be a RAW vs. SmackDown match but a heels vs. faces match.

WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman added, “WWE has always complied with the law. Up until this election, WWE has not been fined nor investigated in the past for independent contractor classification. However, curiously the state of Connecticut is currently conducting an audit of WWE’s classification of independent contractors. WWE constantly reviews its internal practices and procedures to comply with ever-changing employee laws.”

Update on why Matt Hardy was sent home by WWE

Matt Hardy was sent home from the WWE’s ongoing tour of Europe this weekend and WWE sources have confirmed the report. According to reports, there have been concerns about Hardy’s “condition” at yesterday’s live event, in addition to a live event this past week in New York. Hardy was supposed to team R-Truth against CM Punk and Luke Gallows. However, after a discussion with WWE officials, he left the building and didn’t return for the match.

Though Matt Hardy claimed in a video blog entry late last night that he was still in the U.K. in spite of online reports of him being sent home following an apparent backstage incident the day before, he did not work the final event of the European tour, which took place in Skegness, England. He did not offer a response to that portion of the report. Additionally, in his video he blamed “a stooging punk” for the story hitting the net.

In regard to his health, Hardy said he has never felt better. He claimed to have dropped over twenty pounds since changing his diet to eliminate red meat. Apparently, he managed to drop seven additional pounds during the international tour as he wrote on Twitter Thursday night that he was planning a YouTube entry concerning his recent health breakthroughs as he had dropped thirteen pounds at the time. “Definitely gonna do a YT entry soon about my recent health breakthroughs concerning my digestive process,” Hardy wrote. “In 3 weeks, I’ve dropped 13 lbs.”

WWE talking about Unifying all Titles

WWE has been discussing the idea of unifying all titles, ending with the World and WWE Title unification match at WrestleMania 27.

One WWE source says that just because it’s being discussed doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Apparently unifying the belts is brought up in meetings every year or so. It’s said that higher-ups in the company are against the idea of unifying the titles, even though it’s being discussed.

The current talks of unification are called a “what if” discussion based on the success or failure of SmackDown on SyFy. The feeling is that if SmackDown doesn’t too bad in moving to SyFy, then they definitely won’t be unifying all the belts.

The Divas and Women’s Titles are being unified at Night of Champions because of the feeling that the Divas division lacks enough talent to have a title on each brand.

John Cena’s New Movie Receiving Bad Reviews from Top Critics

Reviews are starting to come out for WWE’s new Legendary movie starring John Cena and things aren’t looking good. Currently on the Rotten Tomatoes website, the movie has a 17% rating with 4 “Fresh” reviews and 19 “Rotten” reviews. Below are some quotes on the movie from top critics:

* Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times: “It’s a feel-good Kleenex™ dispenser of a movie, and there’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but it’s routine Hallmark Hall of Afterschool Special material.”

* Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune: “Legendary is so intent on paying heartfelt tribute to dogged young athletes that it neglects basic story needs.”

* Adam Markovitz, Entertainment Weekly: “A well-meaning dud that’ll put you out faster than a sleeper hold.”

* Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel: “The script, by actor turned writer John Posey, has structural problems and motivational issues in between the cliches. And Cena, a few movies into his career, is still all presence and no acting.”

* Rex Reed, New York Observer: “Talk about movies that cannot possibly live up to their titles.”

WWE developmental Diva Aloisia talks about her WWE status

WWE developmental Diva Aloisia, who was pulled from this season of NXT on SyFy, issued an open letter today to fans on her website regarding her status with WWE. Here’s part of what she wrote:

“When I first received my offer from WWE, they asked me to fill out a “Talent Information Form” providing them with information about myself and my background. One of the questions was, “Have you ever posed nude?”. I answered “No” to this question, because that’s the truth. If they had asked me if I ever posed suggestively, I would of course have answered “Yes”, but there’s a big difference between suggestive and nude. As to the question of whether this was why they took me off the show, that’s something you’d have to ask them. Perhaps it was a factor in their decision, but I honestly don’t know their entire thought process, as they’ve communicated very little to me about this. From what I’ve been reading on various blogs, it seems that they may have had a political motivation to get me off the show, but again, you’d have to ask them.”

Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart arrested for stealing pills

A Tampa newspaper reports on the arrest of Jim Neidhart for stealing pills from a neighbor's house.

Professional wrestler Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart has been arrested for possession and trafficking in a controlled substance and burglary, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's arrest report.

Neidhart, 55, of Wesley Chapel, was a wrestler and tag team champion with the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s and 1990s. He was a wrestling partner of Bret Hart.

Just before 3 p.m. Sunday, Neidhart was pumping gas at the A.J. Food Market, 9806 Tom Folsom Road, Thonotosassa, when he began yelling and causing a disturbance, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's arrest report said he was seen opening pill bottles located in the trunk of his silver Pontiac Sunfire.

When deputies arrived at the scene, he was agitated and aggressive. He was observed "ingesting multiple pills that he dropped on the ground while inside the trunk of his vehicle," the sheriff's office arrest report states.

He was found in possession of 55.6 grams of Oxycontin and 17.4 grams of methadone. The prescription pills were in three bottles with the name Mary Cutillo written on the bottles, the sheriff's office said.
