Bret Hart On His Relationship With HBK, Randy Savage & Owen Not Being In HOF

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart spoke with WrestlingVoice.net promoting his upcoming tour of Ireland with American Wrestling Rampage. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

His relationship with Shawn Michaels: “I suspected from the very beginning that me and Shawn, our handshake, would be more BS than anything else and that we were still going to loath each other and hate each others guts for the rest of our lives, but the truth is that he was very humbled and grateful that I was willing to forgive everything and the reality is we were able to become good friends since then. Knowing that it really meant something to him, meant something to me and we actually have a really good friendship now.

"I think Shawn was always a bit of a prima donna and I didn’t think he’d be sincere when he shook my hand and the gratification I get over a few weeks and months after that, you could really see it was a weight lifted of his back and he seemed appreciative and grateful that we could be on good terms again.”

His match with Vince McMahon and his in-ring performances since then: “I thought it was perfect, I loved having my family out there, I loved having my brothers and sisters play the lumberjacks and I think fans got what they wanted even though it wasn’t the old Bret Hart, but the truth is I’m never gonna be that Bret Hart, the technical wrestler, I’m basically gonna be more of a character for the rest of my career, my days of taking suplexes and diving over the top rope are over.”

Harry Smith’s recent release: “It’s unfortunate, but these things happen, you might look at it as a setback but you might look at it as a blessing in disguise, I think he’s a great talent, but needs to reinvent himself and by stepping away from WWE might be a nice break, but I don’t doubt that in time he’ll be back in WWE. He’s still young and a great talent.

"He needs to step away and look to reinvent himself, my brother Owen left the company years ago when he was wrestling as the Blue Blazer and he got out of WWE and did some different tours and promotions and then came back a couple years later and found the footing he was looking for when he came back.”

Being placed #4 behind Steve Austin, The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels on WWE’s 50 Greatest Superstars of All Time DVD: “I beat Steve Austin every time I worked with him throughout my career and yet he he’s graded above him, so figure that out. I could give you a list of 50 wrestlers and it would have credibility because I would have an idea but some guy that’s working for WWE Magazine that makes it up frankly, he can kiss my ass, he doesn’t know anything.”

Randy Savage and Owen Hart’s absence from the WWE Hall of Fame: “It’s not much of a Hall of Fame without Macho Man in it, and Owen belongs in there as much as me or my Dad, so I think it’s only a matter of time.”

Other topics include his highlights from his last run with WWE, who he would like to work with from today’s talent, his favorite and least memorable matches as well as his upcoming rivalry DVD featuring himself and Shawn Michaels.

WWEDVDNews reports that the new Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart DVD is a part of a new series called “WWE’s Greatest Rivalries”, which will also include a Steve Austin vs. The Rock set.

Their enmity spilled out of the ring, and led to the most infamous incident in the history of professional wrestling, The Montreal Screwjob. More than a decade later, the two men buried the hatchet as both are now WWE Hall of Famers.

Now, for the first time ever, the two sit down together and rehash their intertwined destinies in Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart. These new, never-before-aired, interviews will shed new light and insight on controversies fans have speculated about for years.”

Former WWE Star Blasts Shawn Michaels

On the latest episode of "Highway 2 Helms", former WWE star "Hurrican" Shane Helms' weekly web show, co-host Marty Gardner asked Helms who his least favorite wrestler of all-time is. His answer? Shawn Michaels. Helms stated that Michaels was one of his idols growing up, but "he really let me down as a person". Helms then went on to really tear into Michaels, saying he believes Michaels is "the biggest hypocrite in the business" and that "his whole religious gimmick is a f***ing work".

Helms said that he doesn't discount Michaels ring work and says that his matches with The Undertaker are some of the greatest matches of all-time, but as a person Michaels is a "cock-eyed cross-eyed piece of sh**.

Helms then told a story about being so angry at Michaels at a show last year that he wanted to hit him, not caring if he got fired by WWE over it. Michaels was having an argument with Chris Jericho at catering and was verbally attacking Jericho, which Helms did not agree with. Helms did not explain what the issue between Michaels and Jericho was about.

Helms went on to say Michaels is "one of the biggest drug users in the history of the business...who has snorted more coke and done more steroids" than anybody else in wrestling.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels talk about their futures

In an interview with Atlanta.SBNation.com, DX duo Shawn Michaels and Triple H were asked about their WWE futures.

Triple H was asked about his in-ring return and had the following to say:

“Yeah. Got another couple months rehab-wise. I don’t know how regularly I’ll be back. We made a pact that if one of us didn’t recognize it’s time to quit, we’d tell the other one it’s time. It’s a young man’s business, and I’m cool with that. I have fun working with the other side of the business, and I don’t kill animals or follow sports.”

Michaels had the following to add:

“Once you kill something, you’ll be hooked. No, I miss the creative process, and eventually I’m sure I’ll get tired of taking life in the woods.”

Shawn Michaels talks on leaving and if he will go to TNA

WWE legend Shawn Michaels answered a batch of questions sent in from fans on his YouTube page. Michaels answered questions about a number of topics – including whether he will ever wrestle again, if he’d consider returning to television in a non-wrestling capacity, if he’d ever go to TNA and more. Here’s what Michaels said about:

Retirement: “It was time. It was time for HBK to pack up and move on. There isn’t anything I left undid. There isn’t any match that I wish I had. There is absolutely nothing that I didn’t do for me. I know there are a lot of matches people would have liked to have seen, but for my wish list, I was fortunate enough to accomplish far beyond anything I possibly could have accomplished. That was the reason I was ready to go. If there was even one little thing out there, I would have stayed around. Rest assured, there are no regrets and there are no ‘I wish I would have’ for me in WWE.”

His Future & Whether He’d Go To TNA: “No, I’m not going to come back to wrestle. I’m going to do my best to keep my word willing. I’m not going anywhere else. I’m going to be a WWE guy, the good Lord willing, until the day I die,” Michaels said. “You’re not going to see me show up on someone else’s wrestling program. I hope to make some appearances throughout the years. Hopefully in the not too distant future, I will see many of you again.”

Why Lance Cade was released

As noted before, Lance Cade was released by WWE again this past week after being re-hired late last year. Cade asked to go to rehab shortly after being re-hired and soon after he got out of rehab, they released him again.

Cade said that he was contacted by Michael Hayes last August and told he had a spot on SmackDown as a top heel against Undertaker, in a new interview with PWInsider.com. Cade was re-hired in October. Instead of going to the main roster, the feud with Undertaker was nixed and he went to FCW for a bit. Cade says John Laurinaitis called him in December saying they were going to bring him to the main roster, likely on ECW. Cade was having problems going through painkiller withdrawals which led to an addiction to sleeping pills. He called officials and asked to be put in rehab.

Cade finished rehab and says in early March, Shawn Michaels told him he was done and would never be used as a top guy. This past week he was released. Cade is upset that most guys let their problems get even worse for fear or “losing their spot” and when he tried to get help for his problems, he was fired.

Update on Shawn Michaels After Last Night’s WrestleMania

Following last night’s WrestleMania 26, it appears that Shawn Michaels really is retiring, or at least taking a long break.

The WWE public relations person in the media section last night was telling reporters that Shawn Michaels is indeed retiring. This was also the word going around backstage at the show. A long break is at least possible as Shawn was telling people goodbye last night.

A Historic Night - WrestleMania XXVI Thoughts

A night that will long be remembered, WrestleMania XXVI is in the books from Phoenix. Being at the event live was a treat, and for the most part I felt the crowd was into it all night, except when they were not being treated to a solid match. Here are my thoughts from the live event:

Opener - WWE Unified Tag Team Title Match
The Miz & Big Show defeat John Morrison & R-Truth

A solid opener that was as expected, won by the champs. The match was pretty short, but also a good way to get the night rolling. As stated in the preview, I like the Miz, Show team, and think they should get to keep the belts for awhile.

Randy Orton defeats Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase

This match being second to me shows the somewhat lack of interest for this match, but it did what it was supposed to, which was push Orton more into a face than ever. The thought here is Orton continues his "cool heel/face" role, which I think the fans are now clearly on board with. As for Dibiase and Rhodes, they had a good first Mania match.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

As usual, the MITB match had its share of high spots, and ladders used also was the key to a very well put together match. I wish just once Kane would be allowed to win a high profile match like this, but we all knew he wouldn't. Interesting push allowing Jack Swagger to win, and I wonder when he found out as I asked him at Axxess on Thursday if he was excited for Mania and he said he hadn't slept in three days. Hmmm...wonder if he knew something we didn't. Now the question is does he get to take advantage of the use of the briefcase.

Sheamus vs Triple H

No shock here at all as HHH comes away with a clean pin, but I have a sense we'll see this match a few more times with Sheamus getting his share of wins. They want to build Sheamus up, and this match did that, as he held his own against the Game. As for HHH, it will be interesting to see his future, and if he gets into the main event role again as he's been on the outside looking in for awhile, which is rare for Vince's son-in-law.

Rey Mysterio defeats CM Punk

Crowd to me sort of turned on this match, this despite to me Punk being maybe the best heel in the WWE right now. Mysterio did all his usual spots, and in the end got a clean win which was expected as this feud will continue well into 2010. As for Punk, I hope they don't screw around too much with his character, as it's been effective with the whole Straight Edge Society thing for the past few months.

Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon

I think I called this one right - pretty lame. I didn't expect much from the near 70-year old Vince, and Bret wasn't gonna do much either, and that's what we got. Someone behind me chanted "boring" during the match, and let's face it - it was. Bret's family getting their licks in was a cool added plus, and it was about the only compelling part of the match. Bret's gonna stick around for awhile, and let's hope it's all on the outside of the ring. This was exactly what it should have been, no need to drag it on.

World Heavyweight Title Match
Chris Jericho defeats Edge

Got the sense as we got closer that Jericho would win this, and I was right. Though with the end of the match spear though the tables, they kept Edge strong and this feud will keep going as 2010 continues. Again, some very good spots, but also kind of dragged. Not sure if keeping Edge a face for the rest of the year is a good thing or not, but for now he will eventually get the strap back, but this was a good move keeping it on Y2J for at least a few more nights.

10-Diva Tag Match
Vickie Guerrero, Alicia Fox, Michelle McCool, Layla and Maryse defeat Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Gail Kim and Beth Phoenix

So Vickie is the biggest women heel in the WWE, yet the booking had her basically getting a pop by doing a move dedicated to her late beloved husband? Only at Mania I guess. Other than that, this really made little sense to me, as the women just kept running in and doing their finishing moves on one another. Whatever, it was eye candy, and that's all the women matches at Mania ever are anymore. I'm sure new WWE Hall of Famer Wendi Richter rolled her eyes at this one.

WWE Title Match
John Cena defeats Batista

Strong match for the title, and no surprise that Cena is back on top. They booked this all along for Cena to win, but Batista gave him a strong match and I can see these two in a long feud through 2010. Batista heel is a great character, and the whole "in it for the money" thing fits him perfectly. The two kicking out of finishing moves gave me an Austin-Rock WM 15 flashback, and here's hoping they keep this feud going, as it deserves more than one rematch.

Career vs. Streak Match
The Undertaker defeats Shawn Michaels

We all knew it couldn't live up to WM 25, but I'll just say this - it came close. Add in the emotion of the crowd with the fact it was truly the main event, which was the correct booking, and you had another possible match of the year. No surprise that Taker won, and the ending with him seemingly showing Michaels remorse before the second tombstone was a classic moment that will be relived forever. This match shows that a Mania main event doesn't need to be a title match, and while Michaels is "gone," let's say for now I would love to see it one more time.
