WWE Still Looking for a Big Angle for WM 27

While Brock Lesnar most likely will not have a role at WrestleMania 27, those in WWE were really hoping it would happen and it was more than just a fantasy.

Vince McMahon had been invested in the idea since mid-October. Vince knew ahead of time about everything that went down with Lesnar and Undertaker at the UFC pay-per-view. The number of people within WWE who knew about it before it happened is very small.

Vince realizes that it will be hard to do a good number or WrestleMania next year just relying on their current roster. Including the Lesnar idea, Vince has pursued three major out-of-the-box ideas for WrestleMania. The other two ideas, while known to some, have not been reported yet.

At this point, WWE is heavily looking at bringing in people who are not in the wrestling business for WrestleMania 27 and are wanting to headline the show with an “outsider” angle.

John Cena set to return to TV as "Juan" Cena

As noted before, WWE is planning to have John Cena appear on RAW, billed as his Mexican cousin “Juan Cena.”

The plan as of this week was for Cena to continue working RAW live events and TV tapings under the Juan gimmick. The idea is that Cena will wrestle under a mask and continue the feud with Wade Barrett, until Barrett lets “John” return.

WWE officials are worried that ratings will tank without Cena on T

Bret Hart teases a WWE TV Return

The Daily Mirror in the UK has a new video interview up with Bret Hart.

Bret hints that he may be involved in the current feud between David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd on RAW. Hart said:

“I personally think that their story has not evolved enough yet. There’s a real human interest story about their childhoods and growing up with wrestling that doesn’t need to be rushed.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the timing is a little quick and – I don’t have any idea if this rift they have right now is going to be a permanent rift or going to lead to a huge storyline. Who knows, maybe it will tie me in somehow.”

Regarding TNA, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, Bret said:

“I’m so unfamiliar with TNA. I don’t know what they’re doing. More so than ever, when they’ve tied themselves in with the genius of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, I immediately focus on something else. I’ve been there, done that. I know between the two of them, they don’t have a good idea in their head about wrestling.”

Miz Upsets Randy Orton for the WWE Title

The Miz became the new WWE Champion on RAW from Orlando, Florida after he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract for a shot at Randy Orton’s title.

Orton had just successfully defended the title against Wade Barrett, with help from John Cena. The angle was that Orton had a bad knee after being attacked by Nexus before the match with Barrett.

With The Miz capturing the WWE Title after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase last night, that made the Money in the Bank winners 8-for-8 in their cash-in attempts. With the title win, both Randy Orton and The Miz were listed as trending topics on Twitter last night.

Val Venis Not coming back to WWE

Sean Morley (a/k/a Val Venis) will not be returning to WWE as a performer. He was on hand for the company’s “Old School” episode of Raw and was trained to be a producer. It was said to be more of tryout to see if he’s adequate enough to be a producer now.

The former WWE Intercontinental Champion was telling promoters he was going on WWE’s recent tour of Europe. It is unclear whether Venis attended the television tapings, but he worked a show for NWS over the weekend and is once again accepting independent bookings

JR Blog: Undertaker and WrestleMania, JR’s Broadcasting Future, More

Jim Ross is back with another blog over on www.jrsbarbq.com. Here are some of the highlights:

- MVP’s promo on Friday Night Smackdown was his best in months and maybe ever. I listened intently to every word and to be perfectly honest I rarely listen to every word of every wrestling promo that I hear during the week of seemingly endless TV broadcasts.

- Kaval beats the IC champion on Friday night in approximately two minutes of bell to bell action. Doesn’t bode well for Dolph Ziggler who also recently lost three in a row to Daniel Bryan in one week. Ziggler is due to miraculously recover his focus and will likely beat Kaval in what could be a helluva match Sunday at Survivor Series. They could steal the show but not in 5-7 minutes of wrestling time.

- Emailer….I don’t think that Monday night was my official ‘send off ‘ from WWE announcing or at least no one told me such. After doing a piece of the Celtics radio broadcast with pal Sean Grande a couple of weeks ago in OKC and with the OU Football and Basketball job coming open next year, I would like to think that I will be doing some broadcasting work before I finally hang it up which will be years from now. The UFC upper mgmt people know that I have an interest in their product and I think that my style would fit what they do quite well especially when they begin expanding their roster of broadcasters. Who knows, WWE might want me to do something on an occasional basis but I must point out that there is absolutely no plans to that affect at this time.

- Wrestlemania will be here before we know it in Atlanta. I would expect that some 2011 WWE HOF names to be released in the next two weeks or so and maybe sooner. Tickets need to be sold for the HOF induction ceremony and one can’t sell goods out of an empty wagon. The biggest issue about WM27 seems to be the status of the Undertaker. I think it will be a photo finish but I will not, cannot, and choose not to bet against Taker returning to try and take his streak to 19-0. If most fans only knew what Wrestlemania personally means to the Phenom you wouldn’t bet against him either.

It’s a young man’s business, and I’m cool with that. I have fun working with the other side of the business, and I don’t kill animals or follow sports.”

Michaels had the following to add:

“Once you kill something, you’ll be hooked. No, I miss the creative process, and eventually I’m sure I’ll get tired of taking life in the woods.”

Talent not sure about Survivor Series

As of last night, many of the WWE roster weren’t aware if they will be involved on the Survivor Series show, especially considering only three matches have been announced.

The consensus is that most will work the pay-per-view and WWE will not have to worry about travel expenses of getting talent to Miami as most of the roster reside in Tampa anyway. Nobody even know whether there will be the traditional multiple person Survivor Series elimination match.

Update on Early Royal Rumble and WrestleMania Plans

Preliminary creative plans for 2011 include John Cena facing Wade Barrett at the Royal Rumble as well as Barrett facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 27.

Based on WWE’s reported plans, it would suggest Barrett wins the WWE Championship at Survivor Series and subsequently loses the belt to Cena at the Royal Rumble, likely setting up Cena vs. Orton for the strap at WrestleMania 27.

Undertaker, however, is in desperate need of shoulder surgery, and there is much concern internally that if he gets it, he won’t be healthy in time for WrestleMania XXVII.

Original WWE Idea for Brock Lesnar and Undertaker at UFC 121

WWE sources indicate this week that their original idea for an Undertaker and Brock Lesnar confrontation at UFC 121 was for it to take place backstage after the show, likely at the press conference where cameras were.

Lesnar lost, needed stitches and had decided not to appear at the press conference. Taker and McCool were backstage after the show but left when it was obvious that Brock wasn’t coming out for the press conference.

The video filmed with Ariel Helwani in the crowd, which has been viewed millions of times online, turned out to be a lucky coincidence for WWE as their original plan ended up falling through.

Update on the return of Triple H

Triple H made his WWE return at the Fan Appreciation event in Hartford. This comes as no surprise as his return for a one-night only appearance was advertised two weeks ago. During the event, Alberto Del Rio was in the ring cutting a promo on Rey Mysterio not being there when Triple H came out for a match. Triple H won with a Pedigree and then hit Del Rio’s announcer with one.

He later led the WWE roster to the ring during the World Heavyweight Title match between Kane and John Cena, who made a surprise appearance. Nexus had came to attack Cena before Triple H, Randy Orton, and other stars made the save. Triple H ended up hitting a Pedigree on Sheamus.

Triple H has been spending most of his time helping with Linda McMahon's senate campaign. Additionally, Triple H is being groomed for an executive position once he is ready to retire from the ring. Triple H already has been given the title Senior Advisor and he is working directly with Vince McMahon. Triple H even had his own office setup in WWE's Connecticut headquarters. Given Triple H's recent return to the ring, Triple H may be in a position to return for Survivor Series.
