Randy Orton Scrapped From "Marine: Homefront"

From TMZ:

WWE superstar Randy Orton has been 86'd from the lead role in the upcoming movie "Marine: Homefront" ... amidst outrage from several Devil Dogs who claim Randy deserted them during his brief stint in the USMC.

A rep for WWE tells us, "WWE demonstrated poor judgment in signing Randy Orton for the 3rd installment of the film."

The rep adds, "Despite Randy's popularity, the fact that he was dishonorably discharged from the USMC made it inappropriate for him to be cast in this film."

The move will surely satisfy Cpl. Mike Vinn ... one of Randy's former unit members who was FURIOUS the wrestler was ever up for the role in the first place ... since Orton received a bad conduct discharge in 1999 after going AWOL on two separate occasions and disobeying an order from a commanding officer.

Orton was court-martialed and served 38 days in a military prison.

Before Orton was scrapped from the project, Vinn told TMZ, "I am disgusted that his face and the word Marine are being used next to each other -- real or fake -- because of the fact that he quit us, the country, and the Marine Corps. [Randy] in the role of a Marine is a disgrace to those that have worn and are wearing that uniform."

Orton Interviewed by Rock Station in Phoenix

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton participated in an interview with Phoenix, Arizona based rock station 98 KUPD promoting this week's SmackDown tapings. Highlights from the interview are as follows.

* Orton discussed his past issues with drug abuse, including an incident in 2006 where he overdosed, stopped breathing and his wife called an ambulance to save his life. Orton said he and his family discuss the bad choices he's made in WWE's upcoming DVD release, Randy Orton: The Evolution of a Predator

"I was ashamed of it for a long time, but now talking about it and getting it off my chest—when my in-laws and mom watches it, they're going to cry. My wife talks about when I stopped breathing and the ambulance came," Orton said.

* Orton noted his recent concussion at a live event in Spain, saying the Raw taping the day after was "the biggest blur" and that he "couldn't focus or concentrate." He said it was the sixth concussion he had suffered, which had WWE worried. He said it was three years since his previous concussion, and that he had suffered some "bad ones" earlier in his career.

* Orton was broached on the subject of not being able to say he's a wrestler, but rather, a "WWE Superstar." Orton added, "Honestly, a lot of things we've talked about thus far in this interview, they'd be upset with. I'm not like, 'eff it,' but I try to be real."

* Orton shared a story of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson trying to get him in trouble prior to WrestleMania. Orton said he gave his opinion on The Rock during a media interview—that he wasn't buying his return speech about returning to WWE and never leaving again. John Laurinaitis told him he "got in trouble" with Vince McMahon over his remarks. Orton said Johnson called management and claimed the WWE Superstar slammed him and Triple H in the interview. Orton feels Rock mentioned Triple H to grab their attention even though he didn't criticize "The Game" in the interview.

* Orton said Cena is "light years" ahead of everyone in WWE on the microphone, including The Rock. Orton then criticized Cena's wrestling ability by laughing at his in-ring style.

Orton Tweets on His Concussion

World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton wrote the following on Twitter when a fan commented about him not having a match on RAW:

“because I was knocked out in Spain. U can’t wrestle, or should i say, perform, the day after a concussion.”

As noted before, Orton has legitimately suffered a concussion. The latest word on his status for Sunday’s Capitol Punishment pay-per-view is that it will be a “day of game” decision but WWE is hopeful that Orton will be able to wrestle in the match against Christian.

Latest WWE Studios Release "That's What I Am" Scores with Audiences

By Matt Loede

Movies put out by WWE Studios don't normally have a lot of deep meaning to them, which is why the new Samuel Goldwyn drama "That's What I Am," is one that frankly shocks you.

There's no car blow ups, no jail breaks, and no wrestling in the movie. Instead, it's a movie that centers around an 8th grader in the 1960's, a time where tolerance and the accepting of others was not nearly as common place as it is today.

"That's What I Am" is about young Andy Nichol (Chase Ellison), a student in his last year of junior high. Nichol isn't the most popular kid in his school, but he's also for the most part accepted by almost all the groups in his junior high.

When Andy is assigned an English writing project by his favorite teacher, Mr. Simon, played very well by veteran actor Ed Harris, he’s partnered with the one boy in the school who day in and day out seems to take a beating - both physically and mentally - Stanley “Big G” Miner (Alexander Walters).

The “G” in Stanley's name stands for ginger. He's a tall, red head with large ears and finds himself being picked on by just about every kid, bully or not. Instead of defending himself from the beatings, Stanley takes the high road, knowing that those that picked and beat on him would eventually reap what they sowed.

Stanley and Andy quickly become pals, working on the project when the movie takes a turn when one of the school bullies, Carl Freel (Cameron Deane Stewart), gets suspended for beating up a girl who he says gave him cooties.

Mr.Simon comforts the young girl, and once he gets Carl suspended, the movie takes another twist when the bully spreads a rumor to his parents that the teacher is homosexual.

The Viper, Randy Orton, makes his acting debut as Carl's father, who works hard on trying to get Simon removed from teaching. He's not ready for an Academy Award by any means, but his character does a good enough job to earn kudos for not embarrassing himself in the movie.

Simon is faced with the tough decision on if he should allow the pressure of Carl's parents to get involved with his personal life, or if he should himself take the high road and step away from the profession he loves.

There's also some romance as well for young Andy, as he scores his first makeout with the hottest girl in the school - Mary Clear (Mia Rose Frampton, daughter of ‘70s rocker Peter Frampton). It's a fun part of the movie to see young Andy try to get enough nerve to ask Mary to go steady while trying to avoid her ex-boyfriend, another school bully in Ricky Brown.

The movie concludes with Stanley facing his peers at a talent show, Andy learning what tolerance and seeing how people are different are all about, and Mr.Simon making the biggest decision of his life.

It's a fun movie that shares some tough life lessons, teaches people of all ages to remember what's important in life, and also reminds us of the great life lesson of compassion.

The cast does a solid job in their parts, and while at times it's a little tough to see the bullies get their way, but in the end credits, you know as adults the road they are headed down.

Bob Orton Talks About the Success of Son Randy

WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton recently spoke with Alex Marvez of Scrippsnews.com to promote this weekend’s WrestleReunion 5. Here are some of the highlights:

His son Randy Orton getting into wrestling:
“He started to wrestle at 9 years old and had a pretty good amateur career. He was going to go away to (college), but he didn’t know exactly what he wanted to major in, so he decided to join the Marines. That didn’t work out, so we went down and talked to (WWE road agents) Jack Lanza and Tony Garea. They brought Randy up and had a look at him. The rest is history.”

Randy’s success now:
“What’s scary is, he’s starting to get healthy again,” he said, referring to Randy’s extensive history of shoulder and neck injuries. “His (in-ring) psychology is really falling into place. He can really handle the crowd while also handling the match. He should continue to improve as long as he stays devoted, which he seems to be doing pretty good at.”

Miz Upsets Randy Orton for the WWE Title

The Miz became the new WWE Champion on RAW from Orlando, Florida after he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract for a shot at Randy Orton’s title.

Orton had just successfully defended the title against Wade Barrett, with help from John Cena. The angle was that Orton had a bad knee after being attacked by Nexus before the match with Barrett.

With The Miz capturing the WWE Title after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase last night, that made the Money in the Bank winners 8-for-8 in their cash-in attempts. With the title win, both Randy Orton and The Miz were listed as trending topics on Twitter last night.

More on the latest with Nexus/Cena

On Monday’s RAW, it was announced that John Cena will be the special guest referee for Randy Orton’s WWE title defense against Wade Barrett at Survivor Series. The match stipulation states that if Cena can help Barrett win the belt, he will be relieved from his duties as a member of Nexus.

To update how long John Cena will be a part of Nexus, a commercial that aired during Monday’s WWE RAW announced Randy Orton & Mark Henry are scheduled to face Sheamus & Wade Barrett in a tag team match at the Raw World Tour house show to be held in Biloxi, Mississippi on December 12. The ad stated John Cena would be in the corner of Sheamus and Barrett during the match.

While these TV ads are always subject to change, it’s worth noting that WWE is advertising Cena as a member of Nexus as far off as December.
