Plans for HHH-Punk

The decision to put CM Punk vs. Triple H on Night of Champions was actually made over the weekend. The match had been penciled in for the Survivor Series pay-per-view.

There’s still no official word yet on what is keeping Kevin Nash from working a full-fledged match but most feel that it will be resolved soon.

The Nash vs. Punk feud was going to lead into the Punk vs. Triple H match but now the plan is to do Triple H vs. Punk first and then Nash vs. Punk. Original plans had Nash putting Punk over.

Michaels Talks Nash at the End of RAW

Shawn Michaels wrote the following last night after RAW about Kevin Nash: “It aint gonna be good for anybody if @RealKevinNash gets really angry. At any age I’ll put him against anybody in WWE at the real deal!!”

Foley Talks One Last WWE Match with Taker

Mick Foley was asked on Twitter last night if he can see himself having another match against The Undertaker. Foley replied, “Could I see me and Undertaker having one more match? Not likely, but I’m going to drop 50 lbs just in case I get the call.”

Foley was then asked who on the WWE roster today does he think he can have a good match with. Foley said, “Not sure I can have a GREAT match with anyone, anymore. But I think I could have a GOOD last match with several guys in @WWE.”

Foley also gave his thoughts on TNA getting talent over to the mainstream after a fan asked who he thought has “it” on Impact Wrestling, enough to be a top talent like The Rock or John Cena. Foley’s thoughts: “Not trying to be mean, but I’m not sure Impact will ever be big enough to truly get a new wrestler over to the mainstream.”

Reaction to the Promo Punk and Nash Had at RAW

Kevin Nash is expected to be at this coming Monday’s RAW and will be a regular character on WWE TV going forward. As teased on Monday’s RAW, the plans are indeed for Nash to face CM Punk in the ring. The idea behind Punk and Nash feuding is to give Punk a top name that would put him over.

Regarding their segment on Monday’s RAW, the feeling backstage was that Punk got the better of Nash and Nash’s comebacks were too inside and outdated compared to Punk’s.

Since Nash didn’t get that big of a reaction when he came out on RAW, there was talk that they need to do a better job of explaining on TV to the current generation of fans who Nash is.

Latest on Mysterio’s Injury,

Rey Mysterio blew out his knee in the match against Alberto Del Rio on Monday’s RAW during a baseball slide. Rey couldn’t walk at all backstage after the match. He had an MRI done last week and noted he had another one yesterday on Twitter, which apparently wasn’t part of the storyline after all. The word on Monday was that Rey wasn’t going to have surgery on his knee but after the blow out at RAW, he might end up having surgery instead of going through more rehab.

CM Punk Asked If He Can Escape a Feud with Triple H "Undamaged"

Former WWE Champion CM Punk recently appeared on Mark Madden's radio show in Pittsburgh. Madden asked Punk if he was headed for a feud with Triple H and if he was, could he escape that feud "undamaged."

"That's a fantastic question," Punk said. "And I'm not so sure that's where we're headed. I guess that's the $64,000 question. Everybody immediately assumes based on past experiences and past TV shows that this is what's going to happen. 'Punk's going to get buried.' That's one of those things, Mark, I hate to give you this answer but you have to wait and see. Is there a way I can escape that undamaged? Absolutely. Unless we're doing things we were doing 10 years ago and we don't really care about the future of the business. Because let's be honest, the future of the business is in jeopardy right now. If we want to make the same mistakes, then I'm obviously speaking out against it. But if we do make those same mistakes, I don't know if there's going to be a business in 30 years."

Why Nash Was Pulled From Events in Canada

Kevin Nash was pulled from weekend independent wrestling dates in Canada because WWE needs him to go to Pittsburgh to take all the necessary medical exams so he can be cleared to wrestle.

Bret Hart On His Relationship With HBK, Randy Savage & Owen Not Being In HOF

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart spoke with promoting his upcoming tour of Ireland with American Wrestling Rampage. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

His relationship with Shawn Michaels: “I suspected from the very beginning that me and Shawn, our handshake, would be more BS than anything else and that we were still going to loath each other and hate each others guts for the rest of our lives, but the truth is that he was very humbled and grateful that I was willing to forgive everything and the reality is we were able to become good friends since then. Knowing that it really meant something to him, meant something to me and we actually have a really good friendship now.

"I think Shawn was always a bit of a prima donna and I didn’t think he’d be sincere when he shook my hand and the gratification I get over a few weeks and months after that, you could really see it was a weight lifted of his back and he seemed appreciative and grateful that we could be on good terms again.”

His match with Vince McMahon and his in-ring performances since then: “I thought it was perfect, I loved having my family out there, I loved having my brothers and sisters play the lumberjacks and I think fans got what they wanted even though it wasn’t the old Bret Hart, but the truth is I’m never gonna be that Bret Hart, the technical wrestler, I’m basically gonna be more of a character for the rest of my career, my days of taking suplexes and diving over the top rope are over.”

Harry Smith’s recent release: “It’s unfortunate, but these things happen, you might look at it as a setback but you might look at it as a blessing in disguise, I think he’s a great talent, but needs to reinvent himself and by stepping away from WWE might be a nice break, but I don’t doubt that in time he’ll be back in WWE. He’s still young and a great talent.

"He needs to step away and look to reinvent himself, my brother Owen left the company years ago when he was wrestling as the Blue Blazer and he got out of WWE and did some different tours and promotions and then came back a couple years later and found the footing he was looking for when he came back.”

Being placed #4 behind Steve Austin, The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels on WWE’s 50 Greatest Superstars of All Time DVD: “I beat Steve Austin every time I worked with him throughout my career and yet he he’s graded above him, so figure that out. I could give you a list of 50 wrestlers and it would have credibility because I would have an idea but some guy that’s working for WWE Magazine that makes it up frankly, he can kiss my ass, he doesn’t know anything.”

Randy Savage and Owen Hart’s absence from the WWE Hall of Fame: “It’s not much of a Hall of Fame without Macho Man in it, and Owen belongs in there as much as me or my Dad, so I think it’s only a matter of time.”

Other topics include his highlights from his last run with WWE, who he would like to work with from today’s talent, his favorite and least memorable matches as well as his upcoming rivalry DVD featuring himself and Shawn Michaels.

Details on the Steve Austin DVD

Jim Ross revealed on Twitter that the three WrestleMania main events that will be included on Steve Ausitn’s upcoming WWE DVD set are the WrestleMania 13, 15 and 17 main events against Bret Hart and The Rock.

What Was Up with Jim Ross on RAW?

It was pointed out after Monday’s RAW that Jim Ross seemed like a “third-wheel” on commentary during the show. Ross being kept off SummerSlam, not speaking much on RAW and having his hat stomped by Dolph Ziggler was noted by a few people backstage.

Jody Kristofferson, Son of Kris Kristofferson, Gets a WWE Tryout

Wrestler Jody Kristofferson received a WWE tryout at the August 9th show in Sacramento, California. After Brodus Clay pinned Kristofferson, Triple H walked past him and said, “Nice bump, kid.” Kristofferson replied with a thanks and that was it.

Another wrestler working for an extra, as one of Cody Rhodes’ bag guys, approached Triple H and said, “You worked with that kid’s dad in a movie.” A puzzled Triple H was then informed that Jody was the son of actor and musician Kris Kristofferson.

Triple H then went up to Kristofferson and asked him why he didn’t tell him who his father was, and invited him to the SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Rey Mysterio Won't Need Surgery

Rey Mysterio will reportedly not need surgery right now to repair his injured knee and will instead go through months of rehabilitation, and will be missing some time in the ring. There is a lot of talk that Rey is headed for a full knee replacement surgery.

Chris Jericho on The Attitude Era, Punk

Former WWE Champion Chris Jericho spoke with this week. Below are highlights but you can subscribe to Between The Ropes on iTunes at this link.

On whether or not if feels like 12 years since he made his WWE debut on Raw:

"It doesn't really seem like it was 12 years unless I think really hard about all the stuff that's taken place since then. But I can remember writing that promo that I did like it was yesterday in the apartment I was in on the floor, just kind of writing down ideas and writing out the whole promo because back in that time there was no writers or creative as they call it. It was basically you were just on your own. You might have a couple of ideas to throw around but most of it was just coming from your own brain and just saying it the way you wanted to say it. There was no rehearsals or anything like that. You would just go out there and do it. So that's the biggest change between the WWE in 2011 and the WWE of 1999."

On the current PG-13 programming in WWE:

"I don't care about PG-13 or Attitude Era. If you're a great performer, you can make it work no matter what it is. And I never really cared because I might have gone 5% into the Attitude Era or 5% into the overly PG era but I pretty much just did my thing and made it work with whatever was given to me by the boss of the company. That's a copout if people say 'well, I don't like it because it's PG-13 or I can't work within the PG-13 system'. That's BS. It doesn't matter. If you're a good guitar player, you can play Van Halen or Georg Jensen jazz. It's just an excuse."

On simplistic storylines and playing into the current one with CM Punk:

"That's what it's always been about man. It's always been about that and the best guys can do that no matter what rules or guidelines are given to them. That's why the Punk thing worked so good because it was something different. It was Punk vs. the status quo of the WWE. It wasn't so much the insider topics. I'm sure guys like you and me thought that was funny but your average person doesn't have a clue about stuff like that. They just know that Punk is doing something he's not supposed to be doing and saying something he's never said before. That's also why I don't think the thing (Kevin) Nash worked out so well this week because they went too inside."

TNA tag team Generation Me (The Young Bucks) worked a WWE tryout match yesterday. Apparently they wrestled against California independent wrestlers Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky, who also received tryouts. News on Suspended Referee Mike Choida reports that senior WWE referee Mike Chioda may have actually failed a Wellness Test last week but company officials wanted him to work SummerSlam so he wasn't suspended until Monday. Chioda will be able to return to WWE TV in time for Night of Champions.

No word yet on what Chioda failed the Wellness Test for but a source says that "the other referees are sweating."

Santino Marella Asked If He Sees Himself as Champ, Discusses Figures

WWE Superstar Santino Marella spoke with to promote the new line of Mattel WWE figures. Here are a few highlights:

GeekChicDaily: You said you got rid of your unibrow for a wedding. What happened to the fauxhawk?

Santino Marella: Well, you know, I'm trying to be a little more corporate and to be honest, it was exposing some weaknesses I had in my hairline. I have some thinning, male-pattern baldness and I want to cover it. The unibrow will be back in no time, don't worry.

GCD: What's the process like of getting your own action figure made?

SM: Sometimes the Mattel people come to where we're performing Raw, and they'll do pictures: a 360 profile, then for individual things like tattoos they'll do close-ups of each individual tattoo and condense it down as accurately as possible. Sometimes they take individual photos of your shoes or kneepads, details of your outfit, then take all this information back and do it together. Then when they get back, that's when the technology kicks in. That's when they start making 3-D models and decorating based on the photos.

GCD: If you could do a specific defining moment that's more elaborate than the regular figure, what would it be?

SM: Hmmm. I would like to see a two-pack with Vladimir Kozlov and the tag-team titles. We deserve that. We were a tag team for one year straight and that would be nice to see.

GCD: But he's no longer with the company, right?

SM: Well, neither are the Legends...

GCD: You've been hilarious as a comedic character, but there's some feeling that it's tough for a comedy wrestler to be in the main event. Do you think that's right, or do you see yourself someday being the champ?

SM: Interesting question; I debate that myself. You do have more longevity and always have a place when you're the comedic component, but I know I'm developing the skills to become a main-event competitor. My grappling's better; my conditioning is better. I'm more experienced. When I first started I was basically fresh, like a rookie. So it''s not something you can pick up very quickly. It takes many years. But I'm becoming better and Triple H actually told me that you can still be a comedy person, but you can now put the jokes on the other person instead of yourself. So I can still be funny and be competitive.

How WWE Kept Nash's Return a Secret

WWE did everything they could on Sunday night at SummerSlam to keep Kevin Nash's return a surprise. Nash was flown into Los Angeles on Saturday and kept away from the rest of the WWE roster. Only 3 or 4 people in the whole company knew about his return planned for SummerSlam.

On Sunday, Nash was kept away in a different part of the arena and wasn't brought over until right before or during the main event between John Cena and CM Punk. Nash's return wasn't listed on WWE's official booking sheets either.

Edge Speaks Out on When He Would Have Retired

Former WWE Superstar Edge appeared on Right After Wrestling with Arda Ocal and Jimmy Korderas. He told the two on when he would have retired from the ring.

If he didn’t receive the news, how long he felt he would have competed before he retired: “I pretty much assumed that WrestleMania in Miami (WM 28) would be my last because my contract runs out around then. I just thought I would get to there and have my final match there and then retire. The best laid plans never work out the way they should. And they didn’t and that’s okay. I knew it was coming to an end but I didn’t know exactly when that end would be. All this did was speed up the process by exactly 1 year. I already knew I was ready to retire. My body was telling me it was time. All the pain I was in and mentally, the grind, was just getting me down.”
