Why TNA went Heel with Jeff Hardy

TNA Wrestling’s decision to turn Jeff Hardy heel was made approximately seven weeks ago. The creative department felt that it was adamant that the group Abyss had been referring to as “they” for the past several months include the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and it was determined that Hardy and Rob Van Dam were the prime options.

Matt Hardy talks about brother Jeff coming back to WWE

In a chat on Fancast.com yesterday, Matt Hardy said he believes his brother Jeff will be back in WWE. Matt said: "It's one of those things. Jeff can't handle the schedule right now. I think it's not going to be a long-term thing. I think as soon as his body heals up and he gets it together, he'll be back in the WWE again."

Matt then said he would like to see TNA's Sting and AJ Styles in WWE. As far as Sunday's epic match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker goes, Matt predicts The Undertaker to win. Matt also said he would debut a bit of a new look with new pants and arm covers at Sunday's big show.

Trial of Jeff Hardy starts today

Jeff Hardy’s trial on four cases will begin today in the Superior Court of Moore County, North Carolina.

Hardy was arrested on September 11, of last year when police searched his home and found 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 soma prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Jeff was indicted on January 4th, 2010. Hardy is currently facing five felonies in total, a misdemeanor charge and a conspiracy charge. Below are the charges related to his arrest.

* Felony drug trafficking
* Two counts of felony possession of a schedule III controlled substance or drugs.
* Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
* Conspiracy to traffic opium for trafficking four or more grams but less than fourteen grams of opium/heroin.

The conspiracy to traffic opium charge is a new charge that has recently been brought forth.

A 12-person jury will be seated in the court room to overhear the case, and when the DA and defense rest their case, the jury will determine whether Hardy is guilty or not guilty on each of the charges. If the jury finds Hardy guilty of any charges, another court date will be set for sentencing.

Court Date for Jericho & Helms, Fines They're Facing, Jeff Hardy Comments, More

Cincinnati.com had an article up yesterday evening about the arrests of Hurricane Helms and Chris Jericho. They noted that around 4AM on Wednesday, an Erlanger police officer patrolling Crescent Springs saw a group of five people being rowdy in a shopping center parking lot. The officer told the group they needed to leave and some of them got a taxi. This was shortly before the taxi driver pulled over and called 911 after the incident in the backseat.

While other reports have came out since then, Cincinnati.com noted that Helms ran and was later found by police but Matt Hardy couldn't be found by them. It's been mentioned now that Hardy was not sober and as you read before, the woman involved is now claiming that the whole thing was blown out of proportion.

Cincinnati.com noted that a conviction on the misdemeanor charge of public intoxication carries a fine of $25 and court costs of $134. Helms and Jericho can appear in court on February 16th to challenge the charges or they can have the charges dismissed by paying $159 total before court date.

WWE released a statement to the paper saying that they assume the authorities will take proper action if necessary but declined further comment.

- Jeff Hardy commented on the situation with these messages on his Twitter: "Sure tmz picked up their mug shot..big deal..their awesome &why should that be second guessed over an extremely simple situation?Love Je ..." and "They got arrested...it's a shame they care or think it makes them look bad..their amazing employees.....&"

Jeff's girlfriend Beth, who is good friends with Helms and Matt, wrote this on her Twitter: "WOW! MMH made the TMZ headlines! He's on the scoreboard now! So hilarious that the story is about nothing...TMZ is in the entertainment business also, keep that in mind. Funny thing is, Matt wasn't even drinking & didn't have any involvement. Classic TMZ sensationalism. Actually, I was asked to post that. And, to clarify, he wasn't DRUNK. Better?"

Update On Jeff Hardy's TNA Status

There are conflicting reports coming in on Jeff Hardy’s status with TNA. Sources in the company are saying that Hardy has signed a contract with the company while friends of Hardy have said that he told them he has absolutely not signed a deal. The fact Hardy hasn’t appeared with TNA since January 4th would indicate that he hasn’t signed or committed to any dates.

It’s said that WWE still wants Hardy back eventually. Hardy was apparently upset at the recent segments on WWE’s SmackDown with CM Punk where Punk poked fun at him. One person close to Hardy said that one of the reasons he decided to appear on January 4th was just to prove a point to WWE. Word is that friends of Hardy are telling him that at the end of the day, Jeff in TNA is a bad move because he comes across as a much bigger star with WWE.

WWE Did Have Interest in Jeff Hardy

When Jeff Hardy made an on-air return to TNA in concert with news that he had been indicted on drug related charges, many initially assumed that the two were directly related.

Some speculated that because WWE would not want to use a wrestler in the wake of a public indictment, Hardy's only real option was TNA--any interest he had in the company was amplified.

According to F4WOnline.com, however, the idea that WWE did not want Hardy could not be further from the truth. Sources say WWE officials were in constant contact with Jeff Hardy on January 5 with the hope that he would change his mind and return to WWE.

WWE's apparent interest in overlooking the PR backlash of bringing Hardy back is being taken by some as an indication that the company is not totally writing TNA off as irrelevant. If the company believed Hardy working for TNA posed absolutely no threat, its willingness to subject the company and Linda McMahon's political campaign to media heat would simply not have existed.

WWE Hoping for a Punk-Jeff Hardy WM 26 Match?

Source: F4Wonline.com

- WWE officials have wanted Jeff Hardy to face CM Punk at this year's WrestleMania 26 pay-per-view from Arizona.

When Hardy left WWE last year, the impression was given that he would return for a match with Punk at WrestleMania. While nothing has been set in stone yet, WWE officials are hoping Hardy will return to start the build for the match.

One issue surrounding Hardy's return would be his pending criminal charges from his arrest last year and how it might affect Linda McMahon's political career.

Legal Update on Jeff Hardy

Source: PWInsider

Jeff Hardy’s probable cause hearing, which was scheduled for today, was pushed back to January 27th, 2010. This is the second time that the hearing has been delayed.

The probable cause hearing was to determine if there was enough evidence to send the case to the grand jury. If that happens, the grand jury would then decide if the case should be prosecuted or not.

Media Covering Jeff Hardy's Next Court Appearance

As Jeff Hardy's next court appearance draws near, local North Carolina media has once again started covering the story.

The Sanford Herald ran an article Sunday morning discussing Hardy's next appearance, which is slated for November 4.

"The hearing will determine if a crime has been committed. The case will then be passed on to a grand jury, who would review the evidence and decide whether or not to criminally indict Hardy on all charges," reads the article.

The article, which notes Hardy's history with WWE and OMEGA, is interesting in that it never mentions Jeff by name. While specifically identifies his brother Matt, it only refers to Jeff Hardy as a "well-known wrestler," a "Moore County native" and "Hardy."

Jeff Hardy DVD Off the Drawing Board?

It was recently reported that WWE was looking to release a DVD on Jeff Hardy as soon as possible. In fact, Matt Hardy noted on his Twitter account last week that he recently filmed footage for the project in his hometown of Cameron, North Carolina. In light of Jeff Hardy’s arrest yesterday on drug charges, WWE has called off plans to release the DVD. The project is officially off the drawing board.

Jim Ross on the Hardy Arrest, New Hogan DVD

Jim Ross is back with another blog on jrsbarbq.com. Some highlights:

- The news of Jeff Hardy’s apparent arrest on drug charges is disturbing. I have spoken to no one about this matter and only know what info that I have read that was distributed by the police in North Carolina. I hope that there is better news on this matter forthcoming from Jeff or his attorney. Hopefully, Jeff has retained sufficient counsel to help him address these issues. I know that Jeff Hardy is a good young man with endless talents who finished his stint in WWE in grand fashion. Jeff, as are none of us, isn’t perfect and I only hope this matter can be resolved quickly and efficiently so Jeff can move on with his life in a healthy and positive way. Jeff Hardy is innocent until proven guilty as there is likely much more to this matter than we know at this time.

- Regarding the Undertaker ever losing a submission match, the answer to that question is no. Plus, the Undertaker has never lost via submission. I think, to the best of my knowledge, that both those statements are accurate.

- I have no personal interest in seeing a Chris Benoit DVD produced at this time. Perhaps I will have a different mindset in the future. I don’t know the answer to if or when that might occur. Yes, Chris was a great wrestler but exploiting his image on a DVD after the way the Benoit family tragically lost their lives would be untimely in my view.

- I may have mentioned this in a past blog but for the upcoming Hulk Hogan DVD there are some really unique matches of Hogan versus a variety of opponents including 3 that The King and I narrated especially for the DVD. Two from 1980 when Hogan was a villain managed by Freddie Blassie and the hairy backed version of Hulk faced Bob Backlund for the WWWF Title from Philly and Andre The Giant in Madison Square Garden. We also narrated a Hogan vs. Kamala bout from Paul Boesch’s retirement show in Houston in 1987. I think you will enjoy what you see and what you hear on these narrated bouts. Let’s just say that the King and I had alot of fun with this project as you will hear.

Chris Jericho: “Don’t think of judging Jeff Hardy until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes. I will always have Jeffs back…”

Matt Hardy: “Thanks for the support on SD tonight-I know I’m not 100% yet, but I promise you I’ll get there. And remember, innocent until proven guilty… It’s been a long, stressful day for me.. But, everything will be ok.. Guaranteed. Like Public Enemy said “Don’t Believe The Hype!”"

Jeff Hardy Arrested

According to an article on ThePilot.com, former WWE star Jeff Hardy is in a Moore County jail after being arrested on charges of “trafficking in controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids.”

The article states that Hardy was arrested after a search of his residence in Cameron revealed he was in possession of 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 Soma prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a “residual amount of powder cocaine” and drug paraphernalia items.

Jeff Hardy has denied such wrongdoing. Jeff Hardy had the following to say on his Twitter regarding news of his arrest this afternoon: “Alot of exaggerations are out there today, don’t believe everything you read 4 it is not true, I am at home and fine-thanks for your concern” and “The media is the media, I wish they would at least report the story correctly & accurately. I will make a statement later.” Hardy’s official Twitter page is www.twitter.com/jeffhardybrand.
