Kennedy Looking Forward to Going to TNA

One source close to Mr. Kennedy notes that he is looking forward to going to TNA in September, once his 90 day non-compete clause with WWE ends. The same person notes that Kennedy has a lot of confidence and believes he can really be a top guy, but felt like Vince McMahon didn't see him at that level.

Kennedy's goal is to become a top guy in TNA. He thinks TNA will allow him to be the character he thinks he can be without always trying to get him to change. It is believed that TNA has an interest in him. TNA would likely be interested in signing Kennedy to a three-year deal.

J.R. Talks About the Release of Mr.Kennedy

Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. He spoke on the release of Mr.Kennedy

"Sorry to year that 33 year old Mr. Kennedy was released at the end of the week by WWE. Kennedy got the old 'future endeavored' send off that has happened to many. If Kennedy can remain healthy, one would like to think that he his string of injuries is behind him, and can continue with his career in the relatively near future, many feel Kennedy has the skills to be a main eventer on a consistent basis. Kennedy is a studious guy and likely won't find it difficult to secure work. Sometimes a fresh start is good for a wrestler and I hope that's the case for Kennedy or what ever his next wrestling name will be."

Mr.Kennedy Talks About His WWE Return

Mr. Kennedy hyped WrestleMania and discussed his injury in an interview with the Miami Herald.

“Dr. [James] Andrews did my surgery and said it was going to be a long, slow road to recovery, about six months,” Kennedy said. “Right now my projected return date is February 28, but I could end up coming back early, or it could take a little bit longer than that, but I’m hoping for an early return. I feel pretty good. I’ve been rehabbing on my own, and I’ve been working out everyday in the gym. Obviously, I’m chomping at the bit. I hate being off for this long. It’s nice to have a little bit of a break, but to be off this much is a bummer.”

Kennedy also made it clear that he prefers working on the Smackdown side. ”

Raw’s a little more competitive, and there’s a lot more depth on Raw as far as a lot of the top stars are over there, and it is the flagship show for WWE,” Kennedy said. “For an up-n-comer, it was a little bit different experience, and I was glad that I had that experience. I’m also very, very glad to be back over on SmackDown, working with Michael Hayes who is the lead writer for SmackDown and head of creative.”

Official WWE SmackDown! Preview For Tonight

Preview:Modern love
July 11, 2008

It’s a severe understatement to say that former World Heavyweight Champion Edge is upset about losing the title to CM Punk when the Straightedge Superstar cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity. But the Ultimate Opportunist has another chance at fixing some gold around his waist when he takes on WWE Champion Triple H at The Great American Bash.

After a fight with his fiancée, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, Edge said he’ll make his championship run alone. Will the WWE Universe see a wedding on Friday? Or did the Rated-R Superstar mean it when he suggested calling the whole thing off?

Also on SmackDown, Michelle McCool emerged victorious in a Golden Dreams Match against Cherry, Kelly Kelly, Victoria and Maryse. The All-American Diva will face Natalya to determine who will be the first-ever Divas Champion. Will SmackDown’s top Diva, as voted by the WWE Universe, hold the gold? Or will Friday night’s newcomer, the third-generation beauty, continue her successful sports-entertainment career?

United States Champion Matt Hardy further proved he is worthy of the title, overcoming Mr. Kennedy, Chavo Guerrero and Shelton Benjamin in a Fatal Four Way Match and allowing him to keep the gold on ECW. Is the United States Championship on Tuesday nights to stay?

Umaga continued his dominant ways since bulldozing his way from Raw. Will anybody be able to get in his path and slow him down?

Find out the answers to all of these questions and more on Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 CT only on The CW Network.

Where Does Kennedy Stand After the Draft?

Mr. Kennedy isn't expected to get much of a push despite his move back to SmackDown, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The feeling is that he'll continue to tread water and pretty much stay in the same position he's been treading on Raw during the past year.

Carlito Says HHH Marrying Steph McMahon was "A Smart Move"

At a press conference promoting the 7/2 Raw brand house in Santiago, Chile yesterday, Carlito took aim at Triple H and his marriage to Stephanie McMahon. Carlito spoke in Spanish, and there are two slightly different interpretations online from PWInsider.com and the Puerto Rican wrestling news site PRWrestling.com. Thanks to reader Nizzo, we were able to get a translation of what Carlito said according to the PRWrestling.com news post on the story.

When asked about Triple H's marriage, Carlito said (PWInsider.com): "I may get in trouble, but that's why I'm here. My opinion is that it was a smart move by [HHH]. I think that's why he's champion now and has been champion in the past, it's easier to him. We, the real wrestlers, don't depend on people in the business. We don't have that benefit. We have to deliver the maximum in the ring. Others are given championships in a plate of gold or platinum, I'm happy for him."

Same topic, but from PRWrestling.com: "Well I know I'll probably end up with problems but f--- it. It was a smart move on his part [to marry Stephanie McMahon]. That's why he's a champion now and has been for a couple of times. That makes your job a little easier, having people to help you backstage meanwhile us wrestlers break our asses off."

Carlito on Triple H never going overseas to promote WWE (PWInsider.com):
"I don't see him coming to Chile or Paraguay, places like that. He's always comfortable."

Same topic (PRWrestling): "I've never seen Triple H making promos, traveling to Chile, Paraguay or any other place like that. He's always comfortable at home. That gives you an idea who's actually giving the 100% in this business."

He also talked about some of the fans not respecting John Cena (PRWrestling):
"Well, some people might hate him but you people don't really know how much of a worker he is. He really loves his fans. I know you people are sick of him being feed even if you don't want to. But you have to respect the guy. He's always making promos worldwide, has little days off, spends time with fans, etc. As much as you hate him, you have to respect him."

During the press conference, Carlito also said that he has been discriminated against in WWE because of his Latin heritage, although he didn't specify anything. Carlito said his heritage makes things harder for him, but he doesn't regret being Latino.

Mr. Kennedy was also at the press conference, but remained in character.

Can we Please Leave the Theme Music Alone?!

Wrestling entrances and music have become one over the past 20 or so years. Nothing makes a crowd pop more than when a wrestling theme hits that maybe fans have not heard for awhile, or a fan favorite riding high is coming to the ring and the crowd pops for him once they hear his song. It's part of the sport, and has been for sometime and always will be.

Which is why today I sit in disgust with some of the "new" themes that the WWE is rolling out for wrestlers when they come to the ring. The song that is most disturbing to me right now is the new song for Randy Orton, a heel who should have the darkest or the most evil music you can have, metal yes, but a ballad? If you don't know what I am talking about, listen to Orton's new song, which debuted recently. Sounds more like an 80's love ballad by Great White than a song for a man supposed to be the biggest heel on the RAW roster. Here is the open:

"I hear voices in my head
the council me
they understand
they talk to me"

Uh...what? Yes, voices in my head, sounding more like a bad mid-80's hair band song than a heel's theme. It's almost funny how bad this song is. It comes from Rev.Theory, who the WWE is in love with for their song they used of them at WrestleMania XXIV. Now though they have the distinction of having what I feel is the worst song I may have ever heard on a WWE show.

Add Mr.Kennedy's new "happy" theme that was put to a faster tone (they do that when a wrestler turns face) and Jeff Hardy's new awful song to the list of bad music that the company has rolled out. Now give them their due, they usually do a very good job in placing the music behind the wrestler, with these three themes, they totally have missed the boat for whatever reason.

It's a big deal for the WWE to use these up and coming bands for their music as of late, like a Rev Theory or the band Zididada, who did the music for last weeks Judgement Day PPV. Here's hoping they listen to the fans on this one, becuase Orton, Kennedy and Hardy can go back to their old songs at anytime, because the new versions are something to forget.

Updated List of WWE Drug Offenders

From: LordsofPain.net

If you're wondering about the names of the 30+ WWE suspensions, here is an updated list of the history of the program's drug offenders (at least that became public knowledge):

Randy Orton (in August 2006 for failing a drug test due to steroids; continued receiving packages from Signature Pharmacy until February 2007, but wasn't suspended again because he had to wrestle John Cena for the WWE title at Unforgiven 2007 and WWE felt that he had "already served his time;" also, openly smoking marijuana backstage at a show in March 2006 was a behavioral suspension and didn't count as a strike)
Joey Mercury
Rene Dupree (two-time offender)
Kurt Angle
Rob Van Dam (due to a drug possession arrest)
Kid Kash
Ryan Reeves
Ryan O'Reilly (call-up to ECW roster relinquished)
Balls Mahoney (for painkillers)
Drew "Festus" Hankinson (when in developmental in late 2006)
Andrew "Test" Martin (later fired)
referee Chris Kay (two-time offender, later fired)
Jeff Hardy (two-time offender)
Chavo Guerrero (may be a two-timer, as he returned as soon as 60 days passed in November 2007)
Chris Masters (two-time offender, later fired)
Edge
Funaki
Gregory Helms
Booker T (two-time offender)
Charlie Haas
Mr. Kennedy
Umaga
William Regal (two-time offender)
John Morrison
Gene Snitsky (apparently a drug failure as his name never came up during the Signature Pharmacy scandal)
Harry "DH" Smith
Derrick Neikirk (later fired)
Neil "Chet the Jet" Bzibziak (later fired)
Afa, Jr. (for attempting to cheat on a drug test with a realistic prosthetic penis).

By my count, that's 27 Wellness Policy offenders (at least that we know of) and at least 32 individual drug suspensions, so the WWE spokeswoman was being truthful when she said that there have been over 30 suspensions in the policy's history.

WWE’s Mr Kennedy Interview Recap – The Main Event Wrestling Radio Show – May 4th 2008

Interview Audio Can be downloaded at www.maineventradio.com

Q: Ryan Rider alongside Steve Rockamaniac, and today we’ll be interviewing a man who’s voice you’ll pretty much recognize right away, WWE Superstar Ken Kennedy, or should I say, Mr Kennedy…Kennedy, How’s it going Mr Kennedy?

A : I was just going to correct you , but you did well and corrected yourself, so I applaud you.

Q: First off, lets go back to your early days, growing up were you always a wrestling fan?

A: No I wasn’t actually, When I was a little kid, I watched Saturday night’s main event with my dad and , WWF Superstars, but I kinda fell away from it as I got a little older and it wasn’t until 96 or 97 when I was at a buddy’s house and he forced me into watching wrestling as he told me we were going to watch wrestling, and I was like we’re not gonna watch that garbage, Im not gonna watch two guys rolling around all oiled up, he just said yea but you cant look at it that way, it’s a male soap opera, and he said trust me, there is this one guy named Stone Cold Steve Austin, your gonna love him, so at least watch it for that, so I did and I immediately saw Steve coming out to the ring driving a pickup truck throwing in a six pack of beer and flipping people off, I just thought right away that was a guy I could relate too, and I started watching every week religiously just to see him, and pretty soon I got roped into everything else and realized what I had been missing all these years, so I started doing my homework and really went back and looked at the archives, got as many tapes as I possibly could and went back a revisited wrestling history.

Q: So what made you want to make the leap into the business?

A: Well it was just something that I was always always since I was a little kid, been interested in the entertainment industry, I was always making people laugh, goofing off and joking around, doing impersonations of people and reciting lines from movies from the time I could remember so that played into it.

Q: What was your training like?

A: My in ring training was about 9 months of taking bumps, slamming in a 16 x 16 foot ring and it was in a small little dingy poorly lit room in a old mall in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The ring was like concrete and we would just get in there and just do bump after bump all day long, and I would only do it 1 or 2 days a week but at that time being new to the business, you know the first bump you take, I remember the second day, after I had my first day of practice, I went to work and it felt like I had been in a car accident, cause here I thought I would be landing on a trampoline, instead I was landing on railroad ties covered up by a piece of plywood, so it was pretty rough.

Q: Any good stories from your early days in the business?

A : One of the things about the wrestling business is that you run into some real
goofs, you run into some people who try to sell you on pipe dreams, people who actually believe their own hype, and there working to try to accomplish something, but they immediately try to put themselves first. I do remember one of the things one of the guys told me that your not considered a wrestling fan anymore, your above the fans, the fans are weak, the fans are nothing, you don’t listen to them, you don’t talk to them, you don’t associate with them, and its funny cause I always found that weird, because I always look at it as, Im a wrestling fan, and im still a wrestling fan even though im in the business, Im the biggest wrestling fan because I wanted to be in the business because I loved it so much, and I was at a show, and it was my 9th match I believe and the promoter had scheduled us to win the match and take the tag titles from these guys and they refused to put us over because I was too green in their eyes, I hadn’t had enough matches and we had some pretty funny exchanges, and it involved a guy wearing a mask and nothing else, and another guy with a bottle of jack daniels wearing a Ku Klux Klan shirt waving around a 9mm handgun in the basement of this place called the watering hole that we were wrestling in so it was a pretty interesting time.

Q : How long was it between the time you started wrestling to the time you got your WWE developmental contract and how did that come about.

A: It took about 6 and a half years for me to actually get a contract and it was a lot of different things falling into place at once and I had prepared myself and made all these contacts and I just kept trying out and trying out for the WWE, I kept sending tapes, I made it a religion to send them a tape every 6 months and I wouldn’t hear back from them and when I finally did it was like we’ve got nothing for you, but once in a while they’d give me a few pointers, but often nothing at all. So I kept working and working and working and sending tapes and every time they were in the area I would call them and ask if I could go in a try out match and I would normally get that and I would just get around the ring the minute I got there and try to be a sponge and sponge off the guys like Arn Anderson, Fit Finlay and Dean Malenko and whoever else was working out in the ring at the time and slowly but surely I just kind of put all the pieces together and you know eventually after about 6 and half years all those pieces fell into place, and all those contacts I had been making started to come through for me you know like Arn Anderson saw me and liked what I was doing, Paul Heyman saw me and liked what I was doing, Tommy Dreamer and a couple other people and all those people came together and said lets pull the trigger on this guy and see what he’s got.

Q: Well as we have seen you did end up getting that WWE contract and have been successful thus far, but part of your success can be attested to the fact that you say your name twice, what gave you the idea to do that and are you at all surprised at the level of success you have achieved thus far in the WWE?

A: Well I wouldn’t say Im surprised because it was one of those things that I knew I was always going to get there, I had tons of people, when I was working on all those independents for 6 and a half years who would come up to me and say, man when are you gonna get a real job, when are you gonna stop this? Cause here I was driving sometimes 15 hours one way to wrestle in a city in front of 50 people, and get paid 40$ or nothing at all and drive back 15 hours, and you know they thought I was crazy for doing it and I always knew I was going to be successful, it was just something in me that I knew I would rather go to my grave having tried as hard as I possibly could and failed rather than being on of those frustrated jocks who say man I should of played college ball because I could of gone pro cause I was so good in high school, those kind of guys and I wouldn’t be that guy, and as far as the ring introduction goes, I used to announce basketball games back when I was in high school and I was speaking with Paul Heyman one night and he said I want you to do something different tonight, I want you to go out there and announce yourself and I actually just kinda pulled that one from the memory banks, as for some reason when I was in high school I used to say the last name twice for some of the guys to spice it up a little bit and everyone thought it was kind of a hoot, kind of a joke, so I went out there in OVW and did it and when I came back through the curtain and I remember everyone was like man when you said your last name twice that was awesome and I was like are you kidding me, that’s all it took, its weird, and it just goes to show that the weirdest things can get over and you just never know and you just always gotta keep trying stuff.

Q: For most of your time in the company you have played a rule breaker or heel, and this past Monday on Raw you seemed a little different, may I say even a little nicer or face-ish, so is this part of your game plan to take things to the next level?

A: You know I dunno if someone would say I was any nicer it just happened that I was talking to William Regal, and I would talk to William Regal as I would talk to pretty much anybody, You know I was up in his face I called him on the carpet for something that I believe to be true and I know its true, so I dunno, We’ll see, that was a pretty good fan response the other night so we’ll see.

Q: Do you have a preference when it comes to working heel or face?

A: You know when I first came into the company I sat down with Vince and he asked me what do you prefer, and I said that ive always found that the best way to come into the company, no matter if I was working a little independent in Nashville, and I’m from Green Bay Wisconsin, it just always seemed better that if I came in as a rule breaker and then won the fans respect in a way and then kind of turn into the good guy so to speak, and that seems to be a good formula, its just really hard to walk into a new place, especially like the WWE where the fans are pretty unforgiving, and expect them to cheer for you just because you say hey yay im a good guy, cheer for me, so I think its truly easy to go the other route.

Q : You mentioned Stone Cold Steve Austin earlier, one of your all time favorites in the world of professional wrestling and over the last couple of years it has been suggested that he has actually taken the time out to give you some pointers here and there and his advice on your direction, so what has Stone Cold’s mentorship meant to you?

A: You know it’s a little odd to have the guy you looked up to, It’s a little bit surreal sometimes to have the guy you looked up to that I never expected that when I got into the business that I would be working side by side with Steve or be able to call him up for advice or anything like that, and its just been fantastic because Steve still has so much to offer to this business, he has such a great wrestling mind, even if his body isn’t there to wrestle a 100%, and he’s made enough money to retire many times over, so he doesn’t necessarily have to be there giving his input as a creative member but he does have some very creative ideas and every once in a while he calls me up and says ive got one for you, why don’t you try this one, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but he is one of those guys who I just respect so much, and everytime he’s got a unique way to look at everything, I mean ill watch my match 10 times, and then Steve will call me up and say hey I want you to watch this match with me over the phone and he’ll go through stuff that I hadn’t even noticed that would just make the match that much more exciting for the fans, it’s just stuff too that he picks out that you wouldn’t believe and its just an awesome tool to be able to have and Im very grateful to have someone like Steve to be able to call upon for his knowledge.

Q: We’re not far removed from Wrestlemania 24, how was this year’s MITB ladder match compared to last year’s which you won?

A: Well this year’s pretty much sucked cause I didn’t win it, nah but it was a good experience, one less body in there to cause damage, we only had 7 this year instead of 8 and that’s a hard deal to put together a match with that many competitors, and its such a big stage, the grandest stage of them all, and everyone has to get their time in, and the other thing was I wasn’t there the whole week, normally for Wrestlemania you go in and your there 4 or 5 days before the show and this year I only came in 2 days before the show so didn’t have as much time to prepare myself for that match.

Q: Something that has happened quite often to you since you came to the WWE is that everytime it seems that your on the brink of greatness something happens to slow you down, whether it be a injury or last summer’s drug scandal, how have you been able to deal with these adversities and not get too frustrated?

A: Well as far as the injuries and stuff go, hey this is wrestling and what we do isn’t ballet, I mean things are gonna happen and I got injured and im sure that wont been the last injury ill have, what we do is very physical and very violent on the body, and your gonna get injured, period, and so I had to look at it that way, and everytime I got injured I just go into it with the good understanding that hey you know stuff happens and im gonna try to use the time off to get better mentally, and I don’t just sit on my laurels when im home, I watch tapes, I train, get in better shape, and actually the times that I have had off have been nice little breaks where I have been able to give my body a little time to recover. You know there was a injury last year when I tore my triceps, I had just been red lining it up until that point wrestling batista, undertaker, kane all those guys, most beating the snot out of my body and I ended up with two months off and it was a nice little break to rest up the bings and the bangs.

Q: Who has been your favourite opponent to work with?

A: Honestly that’s a really hard question for me to answer, there’s so many guys that I liked working with for so many reasons, Shawn Michaels was an awesome opponent, The Undertaker was fantastic, he was one of those guys who said hey, im gonna take a shot with you, like he approached me one day and said Id love to do business with you, he’s a guy who kinda took me under his wing and said comeone kid lets go for a ride, and he didn’t have to that, he’s there, and he’s the type of guy that is there already and now he wants people to come play with him at the top of the mountain, and that’s whats great about him. Ive also had matches with Triple H, and Matt Hardy who ive had some of my more favorite matches with in the WWE as we always have a way of getting out there and really beating the hell out of eachother but at the same time having a good match and we usually come back and the bosses are happy with our matches and everything so.

Q: What would you say is harder, the actual in ring action or being on the road all the time?

A: Well the in ring stuff is easy, cause you got the adrenaline, you got the excitement of the crowd being right there, but you know its afterwards when the adrenaline wears off and the crowds not there anymore and you realize you’ve taken 15 back drops in the past two weeks as well as a host of other high impact moves and that’s when the pain starts to set in and you know you get a little tired, being on the road, being away from the home, things like that, but I love it, you know I love this business, and we make do when were on the road as we become one big family, we take care and look out for eachother and you make do as everyone is in it together and it sure as hell beats the job I was doing 3 years ago when I was personally training people in Green Bay, Wisconsin, I was miserable. So I love what I do.

Q: Lately you’ve been working on a movie project, Behind Enemy Lines 3, what has that experience been like?

A: It was a good experience, I was down in San Juan, Puerto Rico area, we were filming for the last 6 or 7 weeks, and it was an awesome experience, I got to work with some people in the industry who ive always looked up to, Tim Matheson, directed the film, some of you may remember him from Animal House, Steven Bauer, who was in Scarface, he was Tony Montana’s best friend and confidant in that movie and a few other people, Joe Mangianello stars in the movie, and Im right behind him in second position, and so it was a good experience, a lot of fun, and the people I worked with were great, so I think it will be a fun movie, and I think its gonna be entertaining, and it will be out in January.

--Ryan Rider - Ken, It was a pleasure having you on today, we hope to speak with you again in the future, you have attained a lot of success thus far in the WWE, and best of luck in the future Mr Kennedy.

--Mr Kennedy - Thanks Very Much Guys, The Pleasure Was All yours.

Kennedy Back on TV Next Monday

From: WorldofProWrestling.com

On Monday night it was announced that Mr. Kennedy will be making his return to WWE television on next week's show. The original plan was for him to take part in the King of the Ring tournament against CM Punk. It's quite obvious that plan was changed. As reported previously, Kennedy is away filming a straight-to-DVD film in Puerto Rico.

Odds on Who is the Most Likley to Take the WWE Title Strap from Randy Orton

Randy Orton is into his 7th month as WWE Champion, and while some of the time as title holder the reign has been rather stale, you have to give the third generation wrestler his due, he's been able to do enough to keep the belt around his waist. He pulled off what has to be considered a MAJOR upset with a win over John Cena and Triple H at WrestleMania XXIV two weeks ago, and now will have a fatal four-way coming up at Backlash in two weeks. Let's take a look at some of the top contenders for Orton's belt, and the odds that they will be the one to stop the reign of the RKO.

1. Triple H 5/2
- No doubt that the "King of Kings" has the best shot to eventually unseat Orton. Many had him picked as the man to do it at Mania, but it was not meant to be. Does he really need the belt though? That seems to be a big question in the company, and let's just say for some it's been refreshing that for the past two plus years HHH has been without a championship. Still, he's the man most pick to take the strap.

2. John Cena 4/1
- The Master of Thugonomics is right up there with HHH as someone who can stop the reign of Orton. He also was a pick by many to win at Mania, but again, is the world done with Cena in terms of him being the champ, and what would another run with the belt really do? I guess at some point we are going to find out, but it might be against Triple H in a main event at a mega PPV.

3. Chris Jericho 7/1 - Y2J is the current IC champ, and he has already had a run vs Orton when he came back on TV a few months ago. Jericho still has a lot of value, and has done a good job in running with the IC belt once he took it from Jeff Hardy. Jericho as the champ again can happen, I just right now don't see it.

4. Jeff Hardy 8/1
- Right now this thought is on the back burner, but the bottom line is that Jeff Hardy was inches away and many felt he would be the title holder entering WM. His out of the ring issues seem to be his biggest problem, plus the fact he is still dealing with the tragedy of losing his home and pet dog. I think he comes back strong, and eventually gets another run at Randy.

5. JBL 11/1 - This one is a real head scratcher, as what Layfield has done to earn a legit shot at Orton is beyond me, but for some reason he's got it. I will say this, Layfield said it right when he said that he was one of the most hated champs in WWE history when he had the World Title strap on SmackDown, but that seems like a VERY long time ago.

6. Shawn Michaels 14/1 - HBK had some shots at Orton, and while he still is very popular, I don't see him ever getting the WWE Title again, unless it's simply due to a variety of weird circumstances like injury. With that said, he always does have good matches vs Orton, and a run against him may not be as far fetched as we think.

7. Mr. Kennedy 18/1
- I said post Mania last year that Kennedy someday is going to be a huge babyface, and that he would make a great champion. Well, I think that plan can still happen, but Kennedy has had a tough one year since winning the Money in the Bank match at Mania. Only a switch to face would make this happen, and right now it's not really in the cards.

8. Umaga 20/1
- Same boat as Kennedy, as it seems they played with the thought of turning Umaga a few times, only for him to stay heel, which is where he's best. He is the ultimate killer when it comes to squash matches, then usually loses to the upper tier of guys. I expect to see him make a switch to SmackDown in the next few months.

SmackDown Preview for Tonight from WWE.com

Preview:
Final Stretch

As we get closer to The Granddaddy of Them All, are we seeing the last of certain Superstar streaks? Last week on SmackDown, World Heavyweight Champion Edge pinned Undertaker, albeit in a 3-on-1 Handicap Match. Will this loss inject more fire into The Phenom’s heart, or is it an indication that his 15-0 WrestleMania streak is in jeopardy? How will the champion deal with an angry Deadman?

Having never lost to Undertaker, he has his own streak to protect. “When it comes to facing the Undertaker, I am the true phenom,” the champion said last week on SmackDown. Will this hold true? Both men gained momentum on Raw - The Phenom defeated Mark Henry in a Casket Match and The Rated-R Superstar pinned CM Punk - but Edge's work this week isn't done.

As announced by WWE.com, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero has changed the scheduled 3-on-1 Steel Cage Handicap Match, placing Shawn Michaels by Ric Flair's side to take on World Heavyweight Champion Edge, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder. Despite "Naitch" putting his career on the line ever since the Chairman’s mandate – lose and he must retire – this match is not slated to be career-threatening, but that doesn’t mean his body isn’t threatened. “We won’t jeopardize your career, just your physical well-being,” said the gloating champion last week on SmackDown.

Why has Vickie Guerrero allowed Flair's longtime friend to fight by his side? Will HBK's presence offset the threat of Edge, Hawkins & Ryder inside the ever-dangerous steel cage, or will the WrestleMania opponents find themselves weakened before the Citrus Bowl on March 30?

Montel Vontavious Porter has held the United States Championship since May 2007, but Friday night he will face Batista in a No Count-out, No Disqualification, No Holds Barred rematch for the gold. MVP lost to Batista twice in recent non-title bouts, but when the gold was on the line last Friday night, he squeaked out a win when The Animal was counted out. Can MVP survive when anything goes and once again retain his title, or will Batista go to WrestleMania as the new U.S. Champion? The Animal looked strong in pummeling Umaga on Raw, and MVP will certainly have his hands full on Friday night.

WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison were successful in defending their titles this past Tuesday on ECW on Sci Fi against Tommy Dreamer & Colin Delaney. On SmackDown, however, as seen at the conclusion of the ECW X-Stream, the duo will rekindle their pre-championship reign rivalry with a trip to WrestleMania XXIV on the line when Miz and Morrison square off for the final spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Will Miz move on to WrestleMania or will John Morrison secure his place in Orlando on March 30?

WWE Divas will kick the show off Friday night as they continue their Diva Competition with a Diva Obstacle Course. Unfortunately, one Diva will be eliminated from the competition as decided by your voting. (More) Which Diva will be the first out of the running for bragging rights and the chance to win a custom-built Beverly Hills Choppers motorcycle? Voting is still open so be sure to text the name of your favorite Friday night Diva to 44993!

Also, Finlay sent a message to JBL on Raw, decimating Mr. Kennedy with his shillelagh after some more comments from SmackDown's former color commentator angered him. Finlay's match with JBL at WrestleMania XXIV will now be a Belfast Brawl, Finlay's signature match. But whose favor will that truly work in? The Irishman will be on hand this Friday night, but will he explain why he attacked Kennedy?

Tune in to SmackDown Friday at 8/7 CT on The CW Network as all of the SmackDown Superstars prepare for battle in a little more than two weeks at WrestleMania XXIV.

FLASHBACK - One Year Ago on Let's Wrestle: News Update: SmackDown 3/09

The Following was Posted one Year Ago today on Let's Wrestle

WWE SmackDown Friday night was highlighted by four matches, including two with the main event guys from WrestleMania going over against decent opponents - Batista beating Kane, and Undertaker beating Finley. Both men won clean with pins, which is exactly the way it should have been booked as now with less than three weeks left to Mania both men have to be protected to the upmost.

The rest of the show was okay, and the wrestling on the show went from pretty good (Booker beating Matt Hardy) to decent (Kennedy beating CM Punk). I think the important thing as we head to Mania, is that the top guys get protected, while at the same time the mid-level guys don't just get shown up week after week. Both Hardy and Punk showed some good offense, and the two of them losing should not stop them from being a big part of the Money in the Bank match at Mania.

Speaking of which, I still think Orton wins that match, but I can see some serious thought being given to Kennedy as well taking home the briefcase. I think that we'll see Kennedy get a huge push this year, and with it at some point could come a world title. As for the other semi-big announcement on the show, they had a lame Miz TV segment with The Miz, and he had Ashley on. Within a minute or so of the interview, Melina came down as well, and finally we had Ashley challenge her for the title at Mania. That should become offical this week.

The other challenge for Mania which will be more of a squash if its done right, is MVP telling Teddy Long that he wants Chris Benoit in a match for the US Title. Sorry MVP, if the bookers make this done the right way, this should be nothing more than a 4-5 minute match with Benoit getting a rather easy win. The show as a whole was pretty good, and once again we should have a solid week of TV heading up as we get closer and closer to Mania.
