Floyd Mayweather to Host RAW in Vegas

There’s been a lot of news coming out this week regarding future guest hosts for Monday Night RAW. It was announced on RAW that actor and former WWE writer Freddy Prinze Jr. will host next week’s show.

Earlier this week, news broke that former RAW General Manager Mike Adamle would be returning to guest host the show in 2 weeks on August 24th, which is expected to be a RAW Roulette show. Adamle is currently a sports anchor and reporter for Chicago’s NBC affiliate WMAQ-TV and announced on the air that he’d accepted an invitation from WWE to host RAW on 8/24.

Now, word is coming out that there may be a different guest host when RAW rolls into Las Vegas on the 24th. According to PWInsider, there’s buzz going around the WWE office in Stanford, CT that boxing champ Floyd “Money” Mayweather is rumored to be hosting that show – not Adamle.

Mayweather lives in Las Vegas and has a big fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19th to promote.

Mike Adamle Back to Host RAW?!

From WrestleScoop

Joshua sent the following: Just thought I’d let you guys know that Mike Adamle has apparently been contacted for a role as Raw guest host. He’s been on the local news here in Chicago covering sports and a couple days ago he announced that WWE has called him with the offer. Adamle only revealed that tidbit and didn’t get into details or whether or not he’d accepted.

Update on Adamle - Done for Real w/ WWE?

From: WrestleScoop.com

The word going around WWE is that Mike Adamle is finished, at least for the short term and quite possibly for good. Both sides came to the agreement that Adamle was not cut out for the business so that’s why he was taken off TV as the RAW General Manager.

A lot of people in WWE said it was a fitting end to his WWE run that he fumbled his words badly on his final night on TV.

RAW GM Adamle to Wrestle at Some Point

From: PWMania.com

WWE has plans for Raw General Manager Mike Adamle to wrestle soon. Adamle recently hired a personal trainer in Chicago who works with a number of top athletes because he was told to get ready to wrestle in the near future. Adamle does have an athletic background as he was a very good NFL player at one point, but that was a little over 30 years ago. On another note, Adamle still works as a sportscaster for the NBC affiliate based out of Chicago on a freelance basis.

New GM a Total Surprise to Many

From: Lords of Pain

The entire locker room was kept in the dark last week regarding the announcement of the new General Manager of Raw. When Mike Adamle was named the new General Manager last Monday, it came as a total surprise to everyone in the company. John Cena was as surprised as anyone by the move. He was said to be "especially stunned" as he wasn't in on who it was going to be until it was announced live on television.

RAW Preview from WWE.com

The following is from WWE.com:

On Monday night, Shane McMahon appeared on Raw and announced the show's new General Manager: Mike Adamle. Our fans were shocked to learn that WWE’s flagship program would now be headed up by the absent-minded ECW commentator. Will Adamle be able to take control and command the respect of the Raw roster, or will the mayhem overwhelming the show continue to run unchecked?

On his very first night as Raw GM, Adamle made a number of matches. The biggest of these however, was Raw's first SummerSlam match: For the first-time ever, John Cena vs. Batista. Recent weeks have seen both Superstars displaying their hunger for championship gold, but their match at SummerSlam will be to determine who is truly the top contender on Raw. With two competitors as intense as Cena and The Animal, will they even make it to SummerSlam before a collision?

Though SummerSlam is right around the corner, there's plenty to look forward to on the next Raw as well. For the first time since having his right eye severely injured by Chris Jericho at The Great American Bash, Shawn Michaels will appear for an interview on Raw. Y2J has claimed that he ended the career of HBK, will Michaels corroborate this evidence? What will The Showstopper have to say to the man who injured him so severely?

Though he is still gloating about his win over Michaels, Jericho has begun to look forward as well. The man once known as the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla hosted what he announced as the last edition of his talk-show, the Highlight Reel. Y2J shared several clips of a more fun, fan-friendly Chris Jericho, and then let the WWE Universe know that it was a thing of the past. Like a slew of other top Superstars, Jericho has his eyes on nothing short of the World Heavyweight Championship, and communicated as much. Will new GM Mike Adamle be receptive to Jericho’s desire for championship gold? Who will fall into Y2J's sights next?

For the answers to these questions and more, make sure to tune into Raw, Monday nights at 9/8 CT only on USA Network. And don’t miss Saturday Night’s Main Event this Saturday at 9/8 CT on NBC.

The Sun's Latest Wrestling Offering

WWE's summer of mixed content

By THE LILSBOYS

WATCHING WWE TV in the run-up to SummerSlam has been an odd experience.

There are some things that are simply awesome, some that are frustratingly close to reaching that level - and some that leave you scratching your head asking 'is this meant to be a joke?'

Mike Adamle being announced as the new Raw general manager fits firmly into the latter category - but more on the least charismatic man in wrestling later.

First we want to big up the three fantastic feuds that will almost certainly be battling it out for a coveted SunSport Golden Robe Award at the end of the year.

All regular readers know just how much we love Shawn Michaels, but this week it was his opponent's turn to shine.

Even without HBK in attendance on Raw, Jericho brilliantly continued his Mick Foley style heel turn - turning on the fans by claiming they turned on him first.

Adamle Screws up at RAW

From: WrestleScoop.com

According to reports from fans in attendance at last night's RAW tapings in Washington, DC, Mike Adamle pretty much gave it away to the fans in live attendance that he was the new General Manager.

As soon as Shane McMahon's music hit, Mike left the announcers booth and grabbed a ring mic but was told to go back to the announcing booth. Once Shane McMahon teased the new GM was backstage, Adamle quickly jumped into the ring.

Fans in attendance said it was pretty obvious before Shane announced it who the new General Manager was going to be.

Ross Speaks on the Decision to Name Adamle GM

Jim Ross has updated his blog at jrsbarbq.com where he commented on last night's RAW:

The naming of Adamle as Ras GM was universally considered a shocker by the Raw superstars. I did not see this one coming and it will be most interesting to see how the former NFL running back and sports broadcaster settles into his new, high profile. Some wrestlers were especially vocal regarding Adamle’s announcement which was kept as a well concealed secret.

On other side notes regarding announcing, it is expected that a banged up Michael Cole will return to his Raw post next Monday in Knoxville.

With Adamle focusing on Raw, rumor has it that Todd Grisham will join Tazz on ECW TV show going forward.

My return, for one nite only on Raw, was fun and I had zero advance notice that my services would be needed Monday on my old post. It came as a total surprise that I would be appearing on Raw, I but really enjoyed sitting next to The King on our old show. I didn’t mean to come off as a jerk when correcting Adamle, but when one is wrong one is wrong and Lord knows every announcer in the WWE has been corrected at one time or another. It just goes with the territory sort of like breaking a few eggs to make an omelette. Yours truly arrived in Harrisburg, PA from D.C. at 2 a.m. this morning to get ready for Tuesday night’s Smackdown taping. That ended a 20 hour day in the glamorous world of sports entertainment. Any body got a cup of coffee?

Wonder What Type of Dough Jim Ross Makes?

source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

SmackDown play-by-play announcer Jim Ross reportedly makes the same amount of money as ECW announcer Mike Adamle. Both are believed to be making in the neighborhood of $300,000 per year. In 2005, WWE offered Mike Goldberg far more money to jump from UFC to Raw.

RAW-ECW Merger on Hold Till August 1st

From: WrestlingWorld.com

The scheduled Raw-ECW show merger won't be starting until August 1st, not later this month like originally reported. The last SmackDown/ECW show is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 29 in Hershey, PA. A live Raw taping is scheduled to take place the night before at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. with a Saturday Night's Main Event taping to air at the end of the week on NBC, so that may explain the August 1st start date. Anyway, most everyone in the company is negative on the Raw-ECW show merger, feeling that there is a lot more tension backstage on Monday nights for Raw than Tuesday nights for SmackDown, which is a considerably more relaxed atmosphere. Also, competition is going to be a lot more fierce for spots at house show events. A number of the lower card wrestlers on Raw & ECW are going to have a pretty tough time. On the positive side, the WWE production team has an extra day to clean up any embarrassing Mike Adamle broadcasting miscues instead of less than two hours on most weeks.

Latest Highlights from Jim Ross' Blog

Jim Ross has posted his latest blog entry on his website, which is currently undergoing an overhaul. A few highlights from this entry:

- The $1M promotion that the WWE is going to start soon on Monday Night Raw is garnering a healthy amount of reaction from fans and Internet types. It appears to be similar to many ratings promotions that are done by TV networks, especially in May and November, and also by radio stations, to enhance viewership. Many critics are blasting the on air promotion before it even starts or before the details are known, but that isn’t unusual these days.

- It will be a big night in San Antonio on June 23 as the, apparent, Annual WWE Draft will be held during a 3 hour Monday Night Raw. I am interested in how the order of the draft will be determined and the process that will be utilized to make the selections. I read where the TV announcers are also eligible for the draft, which is perplexing. I can’t speak for the King, but I am personally not interested in leaving Monday Night Raw. I hope that I didn’t just jinx myself. Working regularly on another broadcast would feel strange at this stage of my game.

- Unless I miscounted, there are 7 bouts scheduled for One Night Stand this Sunday in San Diego on pay per view. All will have extreme rules to one degree or another, which makes for an interesting, albeit challenging, night. The good news is that we fans most likely will see clear cut winners and losers in each contest. This PPV is "Raw heavy" with 4 clearly defined Raw matches, plus the HBK-Batista match, which I assume Michael Cole and Mick Foley will call as they only have one Smackdown contest at this time as do ECW’s Mike Adamle and Tazz. From a broadcasting perspective, it looks as if The King will have to carry another multi-branded PPV.

- I hope I am never incarcerated or have any family members jailed, but if I do, I can assure you that I would become a letter writing fool and X-Nay…Phone-A.

WWE Puts out Article on the Adamle Walkout

The WWE website has an update on the Mike Adamle walk-out situation. According to the article, they reached Adamle for comment, but he refused to discuss anything. WWE.com also added: "Speculation remains rampant in the locker room as well as in WWE offices and at WWE.com headquarters. Some believe Adamle is quitting the company. Others say it's simply a ploy to make more money." According to the article, they believe that Adamle's walk-out was a result of a hostile environment at WWE events. "Superstars have not been shy about teasing the commentator about his on-air gaffes. Also, perhaps worst of all, Adamle has been greeted by shouts of "Please quit," "You suck," and even "Drop Dead!" from our fans in the rows closest to the announcers table. The article concludes by telling fans to tune in to ECW on Tuesday to find out the deal on Mike Adamle.

A Strange Week of WWE TV to Say the Least

If there is one thing you can't say about the last two nights of WWE TV - it's that it's been predictable. Who would have thought after two shows this week the top stories would be about William Regal pulling the plug on the main event, and an announcer who should have never had the position he had walking out? Like it or not, it's soap opera TV at its best, and it's something the WWE felt it had to do to make you want to turn in next week.

For the "true" wrestling fan that turns in to watch moves and action, these two shows have probably not been to your liking this week. The Randy Orton vs Triple H match that was pulled at the end of RAW was going along like no other main event on the show that I've seen since last years Shawn Michaels vs John Cena one-hour plus match in London, that easily was the match of the year in my opinion. I will say this though, pulling the plug on it like Regal did left me wanting more, so I can't blame the WWE too much for that.

We'll get more of Orton vs HHH at the next PPV in now less than three weeks - Judgement Day. The two will go at it again, this time in a steel cage, the first of many rematches between the two, and I am sure not the last that we'll see on a PPV scale. While Orton vs HHH is not a totally fresh program, it's a good enough one to get us through till we see HHH vs John Cena after he gets done shooting the movie "12 Rounds" and what is expected to be a stinker feud with the bland JBL.

On to last night. The "walkout" of ECW announcer Mike Adamle is currently being played as a shoot, but I think in the end it'll come out as a work. I am not exactly for sure what led to the walkout, but again, the WWE has been known in the past to be on the pulse of the fan base, and if they know that Adamle is that bad (and he is), I would not be shocked to see him get thrown into some other role, and have an emotional return next week of Joey Styles.

The bottom line with Adamle is that it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Right now within the framework of the company he belongs nowhere near an announcer table. Could he pull off play-by-play right now on HEAT? Probably. But to force feed him each week on ECW has been painful, and hopefully the company listens to the fan base that wants him removed from that position. If this was not a work, then I am sure they would have found a way to edit the final match with some sort of commentary. To have it go on with no announcing, only left you scratching your head, which is the effect the WWE wanted with it.

How Mike Adamle Got the ECW Gig

From: PWPIX.net

Although early reports indicated that Mike Adamle was a pet project for WWE executive producer Kevin Dunn, it was actually Vince McMahon who made the decision to rush him on the air. It turns out that Adamle is friends with NBC executive Dick Ebersol, who is an old friend of Vince.

Adamle and Tazz did very little prep work for their first appearance together last week, even though they had enough time to do so. Adamle’s commentary was actually worse than what was shown on television, as he worked with the production team to make some edits after the show. They didn’t do all the work they wanted to on his commentary since they ran out of time before the broadcast.

He is as much of a laughing stock within the company as he is with viewers right now, but the fact that he’s Vince’s project and is friends with an NBC exec likely means he’ll be around for a while.

In Defense of... Mike Adamle

Hey guys, Tyler Moliterno here, and this is the premiere of my new article I'll write from time to time, First of all, this is not Matt Loede, so please don't send him emails or messages about this article, address them to me at ihatehsm@yahoo.com. Now, this article is for the sole purpose to stick up for someone in the WWE who is being bashed by the IWC.

Are first article of In Defense is dedicated to the newest member of the ECW Announce team, Mike Adamle.

Mike Adamle has taken some heat as of late, actually, ever since he first started with the WWE back in January. It was on his first night at the Royal Rumble when he missed pronounced Jeff Hardys name as “Jeff Harvey” I feel that, at the time, Adamle was not ready for his role in the WWE. If you recall, Adamle had been hired only 2 days before the Rumble, and after those 2 days he was in the crowd at Madison Square Garden talking about something he knew very little about. If it were me, I’d be nervous too, and I would have messed up the name, as would most of you reading this. After the PPV, Mike was moved to Raw were he would, over the next few months, learn about the brand and become much more comfortable in his role, Then, like the Rumble, had a surprise waiting for him, he was told that he would replace Joey Styles as the newest member of the ECW announce team.

Before, Adamle only had to be on camera for a few minutes, saying things that were given to him by the writers, now, he would need to talk for roughly an hour straight, about a brand he knew very little about. That night was tough on Mike. He screwed up names, called people the wrong name, plus during a recap at the end of the first match, called a move “the end of the match” when it just looked like the last move of the match, which was shown seconds later, and lets not for get that he told us that Kofi Kingston was “Jamaican me crazy.” Within minutes, the IWC lit up. Everyone who was anyone made fun of Adamle’s performance. I waited with baited breath for the next ECW, to see Adamle give it another shot.

Last night was much better in terms of Adamles announcing. He barley screwed anything up, talked only when things weren’t going smoothly, and even declared to us again, in a joking manner, that Kofi was still Jamaican him crazy. Even the Miz, who joined the announce team during a match between his tag partner John Morrison and “Jimmy Wang Wang” said that it was an honor to be sitting with Adamle, before heelishly making fun of his performance, saying that “If Adamle can screw up a name, so can I.”

In the end, I’ll give it a few weeks before Adamle feels comfortable with his new position on ECW, but once he gets there, I’m sure he will do a great job. I’m already looking forward to him using his “Uno, Dose, Adios” line during an Elimination match.

If you Disagree with me, and still want to put down the defended, leave a comment on this article and I may address in the next issue of In Defense.

Until next time, I’m Tyler Moliterno, and the defense rests.

Jim Ross Speaks out on Adamle, Bret Hart

Jim Ross is back with another blog entry from his official website.

- Mike Adamle Replacing Joey Styles: The uproar that many wrestling fans have displayed over Mike Adamle replacing Joey Styles as the play by play voice of ECW is one of the more far reaching and passionate displays of opinion in recent memory. I find it to be a really good thing that Joey has so many, and deservedly so, fans of his work that he has cultivated since the days of the original ECW. Two points here…some saying that Joe leaving ECW definitively says that the "ECW as we knew it is finally gone" seems like a day late and a dollar short. The original ECW "passed away" long ago, for better or for worse, and a new televised wrestling vehicle called ECW is now being broadcast. Secondly, others have predicted that the ECW TV rating will drop because of Adamle. That assumption is highly unlikely. Announcers rarely influence the ratings, even though I would love to say that they do as it might mean a little more "cheese on my Whopper" come pay day.

- Bret Hart's Autobiography:
I cannot encourage any one enough to buy Bret Hart's autobiography. This is not only one of the very best wrestling books I have ever read, but one of the best biographies I have ever read…period. My personally autographed copy of this instant classic is one of my most treasured collectibles from one of my all time favorite wrestlers.

- WWE Looking for "Ethnic" Divas: I see where the WWE is looking for more ethnic Divas, specifically Brazilian and Latino Divas. With the company’s global expansion into many new territories globally, it should come as no surprise that Divas and wrestlers of varying ethnicities will be targeted. Divas function as excellent spokespersons, particularly when involved in corporate functions. Perhaps some of them will learn how to wrestle or become proficient at "cat fighting," as their persona’s evolve.

Paul Heyman Speaks Out About ECW Announcing Change

Mike Adamle is Truly Awful

OH BOY. I thought this was going to be a quiet week. No such thing, I guess.

In a decision that really threw everyone for a loop, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Executive Producer Kevin Dunn pulled Joey Styles from the position of ECW play-by-play announcer, and replaced him with the indescribably amateurish Mike Adamle.

The reaction was immediate. Even those who never saw Joey in the original Extreme Championship Wrestling were outraged.

Adamle's performance was so terrible, it drew an intense reaction from even casual fans who couldn't possibly care less, and who were ready to take a baseball bat and smash their television sets after listening to his butchering of the program.

I'm not being overly hard on Mike Adamle. It's the old joke about Vince Russo going to WCW. Russo's booking did such damage to the promotion, people in the industry actually believed Vince McMahon sent him to WCW to kill the company.
