Bryan Danielson Issues Statement on Release

Bryan Danielson has finally offered a detailed statement on his WWE release, confirming via an official blog entry that his firing was spurred by violating WWE’s PG-level guidelines during the initial Nexus “invasion” angle.

Save for his previously-declared commitment to exposing more fans to independent wrestling, Danielson notably shows no favoritism in the blog post. He neither rejects the possibility of returning to WWE nor downplays TNA’s rumored interest in his services, doing his best to keep all doors open at the end of his 90-day non-compete.

The full post, courtesy bryandanielson.tv, is below:

“”WWE has come to terms on the release of NXT first season rookie Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) as of today June 11, 2010. We wish Daniel Bryan the best in all future endeavors.”

Posted by WWE.com

Since this statement was released I’ve been bombarded with messages asking me if it’s real, and by now I’m sure that most people know that it is.

WWE is very serious about adhering to their PG guidelines, and apparently my actions during the NXT attack on John Cena, namely choking announcer Justin Roberts with his tie and spitting in Cena’s face, crossed the boundaries of what is considered “PG.” Perhaps the choking was too violent or perhaps the spit was too demeaning. I apologized for both immediately following the incident; but I would be a hypocrite if I apologized for putting everything I have into the attack. I would much rather have gone too far than to come up too short.

As with anyone who gets fired from their job, especially when they feel its unjust, I am angry. Very angry. But I can’t fault WWE for how they handled my release. My contract contained a 90 day no-compete clause in the event I was let go, yet the WWE has graciously allowed me start wrestling again on any show that’s not taped for television or pay per view.

So with the negatives there also come positives. Before I got signed by WWE last October, I worked hard to bring new fans to independent wrestling. But with most of us having little national exposure the only thing we could do was wrestle our hearts out and hope for word of mouth. Now that I’ve appeared on WWE television in front of millions of new fans, things are different. My goal is to garner as much interest in independent wrestling over the next 90 days as I possibly can. I hope that some of the people who enjoyed watching me wrestle on TV will give independent companies such as Evolve, Dragon Gate USA and Ring of Honor a chance. I think most of you would enjoy the intimacy between the fans and the wrestlers and the intensity of the action; if you ask the fans who went to the Chikara or AIW shows I was on this weekend, I’m sure 99% of them had a great time. So if you’ve never been to an independent show, go ahead and dip your toes in… you might find that the water is pretty nice.

As far as what happens after 90 days, nobody knows. I’ve “heard” that TNA is interested. There are petitions going around to get me back into WWE and the last several weeks there have been fans chanting my names at their shows. People have even brought signs showing their support. And though most of the signs get taken away and though WWE may not be listening to your chants or petitions, I truly appreciate all the support over the last several weeks. It is both overwhelming and heartwarming. But regardless of what offers come in, I am in no rush to make any rash decisions. I enjoy my freedom as much as I enjoyed the benefits offered by being in WWE. My future, as usual, is uncertain. But I am enjoying my return to the independents. I’m hoping to see some of you there.”

Undertaker Marries Michelle McCool

This past weekend, Michelle McCool and The Undertaker were married during in a private ceremony with friends of theirs in The Undertaker's hometown of Houston, Texas. The ceremony was said to be small and private, with only close family, friends and people from the wrestling industry in attendance. The Undertaker and Michelle McCool have been dating for a few years now.

We would like to offer our congratulations to The Undertaker and Michelle McCool and we wish them the best in their life together.

Speaking of The Undertaker, Taker is expected to return to the WWE by SummerSlam. The WWE is currently playing an angle where The Undertaker has been attacked and left in a vegetitive state. As SummerSlam draws near, the identity of the attacker is likely to be Kane, but there is still speculation that NXT may be the ones behind the attack.

NXT Rookies Attack at a House Show in Erie

The NXT Rookies, minus Wade Barrett, interrupted the main event of Sheamus and Edge vs. Randy Orton and John Cena in a steel cage match at last night’s RAW live event in Erie, PA. The Rookies beat up Orton and Cena after Sheamus and Edge ran off. Evan Bourne finally entered the cage was also beat down. Yoshi Tatsu came down next and suffered the same fate.

Mark Henry then came out and brought some RAW stars with him to enter the cage. They beat the Rookies up and chased them off, leaving Michael Tarver in the ring with Orton and Cena. The Rookies returned to the ring and they all brawled some more. The ending saw the RAW stars get the upper-hand and Cena embracing Orton.

More on Batista Leaving the WWE

One of the reasons Batista’s relationship went south with WWE is because he had a four-picture agreement with David DeFalco, the guy who directed Wrong Side of Town with Batista and RVD, and was given the OK by John Laurinaitis to take time off to film the movies. When Laurinaitis told Vince McMahon, Vince said he couldn’t take time off as long as he was under a contract.

Batista’s talks with Strikeforce have been going on but it’s said that they can’t agree on money. TMZ noted yesterday that Batista has lots of movie and TV offers. They also noted that people in his camp weren’t happy when Booker T said he wouldn’t do good in MMA and that Bobby Lashley could beat him.

More on Bryan Danielson Getting Fired

While the tie incident with Justin Roberts is said to be the reason Vince McMahon gave to Bryan Danielson for his WWE release, some in the company believe that Danielson spitting on John Cena may have been the real reason. Vince hates spitting and has banned it in WWE’s rings for a long time. Vince has a hatred for people spitting, smoking and sneezing. At the same time, it’s pretty much guaranteed that Danielson didn’t spit on Cena without clearing the move with Cena himself ahead of time.

Bret Hart's WWE Future

Word coming out of WWE is that Bret Hart is gone for the time being. While there is talk that he might be back by the end of the Summer, he’s gone indefinitely. Not many details are available yet, but it is known that there was concern from Lloyds of London, Bret Hart’s insurance provider, after the physical angle at the end of last week’s RAW with the NXT Rookies.

Originally Bret was going to shoot a face-to-face angle at the Fatal 4 Way pay-per-view with the NXT Rookies, but when he didn’t make it to the show, plans had to be changed.

The Latest on Triple H's Return to the Ring

Although the primary reason for HHH's television absence is his commitment to the upcoming WWE Films project "The Chaperone," he has also been nursing some injuries, and sources have conveyed to F4WOnline.com's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he is more hurt than first thought.

Independently of the potential effect his injuries could have on delaying a return to WWE television comes a story that a scheduled Summerslam feud between Triple H and Edge might be scrapped. Edge, who is currently part of the main-event picture on RAW, will miss some house shows later this summer to film WWE's "Chasing the Hawk."

In the End, is there Any Doubt Who Attacked Taker?

There was at least some discussion this past week about having the NXT Rookies be the ones responsible for The Undertaker being in a vegetative state.

However, word this weekend was that they are planning a Kane vs. Undertaker casket match for SummerSlam, instead of Taker vs. Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight Title.

If WWE goes with the idea that Kane attacked Undertaker and they stick with the casket match at SummerSlam, Taker will work that feud before moving on to the World Heavyweight Title picture.

Former WWE star Batista was at the Strikeforce event in Los Angeles, California last night. He's been training in MMA, but I don't think he'll realistically compete and has been going out on auditions.

John Cena Tweets He Wants Bryan Danielson Back in WWE

John Cena has posted the following on his Twitter account tonight. Needless to say, this should get people talking:

"I am very upset to hear about the release of bryan danielson. Social networks were formed so people would have a voice, and an opinon. I Know you all have your own, theories and whatnot. I respect that. I have never asked any of you to feel a certaint way about me. But Bryan left a lasting impression on the wwe universe in a very short time, and although it came at my expense, I agree with the majority Of you who are caught off guard by this choice. I know I'm not exactly appreciated by all, nor do I care to be, but I believe what I believe. I would like bryan to come back to the wwe. I would like to sign your petition to bring him back. I was taught to stand up for what I beileve in. I tried and failed, so I could Use some help. Tell me how to sign and I will. If for nothing else, to at least have a chance to have a match with him after what was done I know that seems a bit more fair. Give me a chance to have a fair match with him, and give him yet another chance to prove that he does Belong with us. Sorry for the long message, I know I am probally way out of line, I am sorry if I have offended anyone. But like me or not That is what Hustle. Loyalty. And most importantly Respect means to me. The Complaint that Got Daniel Bryan Canned

Partial source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Word is that someone outside of WWE with a lot of power made a complaint to Vince McMahon about Bryan choking Justin Roberts with his own tie on RAW because a scene like that was too violent for WWE. The belief among some if that in that incident, Bryan broke a company protocol that was put in place after the Chris Benoit tragedy that no talents were to use ropes or other objects to choke opponents. Obviously this has been done other times since the Benoit tragedy but the feeling is that it was this particular angle with Bryan and Roberts that got someone powerful enough to complain.

The footage of Bryan choking Roberts was edited off replays as was the footage of him spitting on John Cena. As of late last night, the footage of Bryan choking Roberts was still on WWE’s YouTube page but it has since been removed.

Who exactly made the complaint isn’t known yet but it had to be someone with a lot of influence to get a name like Danielson released. There’s speculation that it could be anyone from Mattel to people in Linda McMahon’s Senate campaign. Vince McMahon called WWE’s partnership with Mattel a game-changer and it’s possible that we’re really seeing Mattel’s influence now. It’s important to note that Mattel making the complaint is not confirmed.

McMahon Shows Up at WWE TV with Two Black Eyes and a Cut

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

- Vince McMahon showed up at WWE's TV tapings this week with two black eyes and a cut over one eye that went to his forehead. Nobody seemed to know what happened. Everyone was talking about it privately but nobody wanted to say anything out loud for fear they might be heard.

Vince never addressed it and if anyone did ask Vince what happened, they weren't telling what he said. It was described as looking like he got in a fight or some kind of accident. Most figured he was in an accident because if it were a fight, it would be hard to keep that quiet.

WWE Continues NXT Invasion at FCW: Rookies Attack Christian & The Miz Last Night

The NXT invasion storyline continued at last night's WWE developmental show in Florida. The main event was scheduled to be The Miz and Daniel Bryan vs. Christian and Heath Slater but that didn't happen. The Miz's music played before the match but nobody came out. Christian came out next and talked about what happened on RAW, then called out Heath Slater. Slater talked about how everything was good to start off on NXT but then Christian wouldn't give him the answers so they lost the competition.

Daniel Bryan then ran out and attacked Christian from behind. The Miz came down next and fought off the Rookies with Christian. Miz proposes that they do a Pros vs. Rookies match. Miz cut a babyface promo with Christian and worked the match as a face.

The ending came when Miz and Christian were about to hit their finishers on the Rookies. All of the Season 1 Rookies rushed the ring and beat down Miz and Christian. The Rookies tore down the FCW ring before Bryan kicked Miz in the head and Slater hit the Killswitch on Christian. The Rookies left with the Pros laid out.

Examier says Taker may not be back till SummerSlam

The Wrestling Examiner reports that it looks as if the Undertaker may be back for SummerSlam under a new look:

While many articles have erroneously reported that the Undertaker died, committed suicide, suffered a career-ending injury, or retired, the truth is that the Undertaker recently underwent surgery for his badly injured - but not career-threatening - orbital bone.

As it stands, the Undertaker will not be featured on WWE programming until SummerSlam in August.

Despite rumors reported to the contrary, he will not appear at WWE's June 20th pay-per-view "Fatal 4-Way."

Until SummerSlam, WWE will continue to milk the mystery surrounding the whereabouts of the Undertaker and who put him in his "vegetative state."

Sources inside WWE reveal that the most unorthodox storyline could even culminate in a death and resurrection-style scenario for the Undertaker with the "Phenom" possibly returning to his classic 1990-ish look as the Taker hopes to reportedly wind down his career in the coming months.

"Modern Family," "Superbad" actors confirmed for WWE's new HHH movie

WWE issued a press release in support of its new comedy film "The Chaperone" Monday, confirming that a child actress from "Modern Family" will join WWE Superstar Triple H in the film.

Triple H, who also stars in WWE's "Inside Out," plays Ray Bradstone, a skilled getaway driver for a team of bank robbers. Recently, however, Ray has been looking to leave the world of crime in order to become a good father for his daughter Sally ("Modern Family"'s Ariel Winter) and make amends with his wife (Annabeth Gish, "Brotherhood").

Struggling to find honest work, Ray reluctantly accepts a final gig with his old bank-robbing crew, led by Phillip Larue (Kevin Corrigan, "Superbad"). At the last second, Ray backs out of the heist to serve as a chaperone for his daughter's school field trip. Without Ray at the wheels, the robbery goes awry, and Phillip seeks vengeance, chasing Ray and the school bus to the Museum of Natural History in New Orleans.

"Ray must deal with Larue, while supervising Sally’s class on what becomes one of the craziest school trips ever."

Stephen Herek ("Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure") directs the film, which began principal photography Monday in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Fans buzz over Undertaker angle

Formally unveiled during the two-hour Friday Night SmackDown! telecast, WWE's new storyline for The Undertaker has fans buzzing.

As of 11:30PM, the Undertaker storyline was the subject of the top four searches on Google. The queries, in order, were "undertaker died," "what happened to the undertaker," "is the undertaker dead," "wwe undertaker." 'Mark Calaway' was the twelfth most popular search.

The storyline, which kicked off this week, claims that Kane found his brother The Undertaker in a vegetative state last weekend and is now seeking to identify and have vengeance against the person responsible. A scripted angle, the storyline was designed in response to Undertaker suffering facial injuries, including a broken orbital bone, during his match with Rey Mysterio last week.

Because the injury was serious enough to keep Taker out of the Fatal 4 Way main-event, WWE needed to offer a storyline explanation for his absence.

Latest J.R. Blog; Edge retiring talk

Jim Ross is back with another blog on jrsbarbq.com. Here are a few highlights:

- Interesting article in an Asheville, N.C. newspaper on Edge where he said he could see retiring in two years. I think many in Edge’s generation who have made big money, and he has, and have wisely saved and invested it, and I suspect that he has, will not hang around the business too long simply so that they can preserve what physical health that they can. Edge has had significant injuries in his illustrious career specifically his neck surgery and if asked, and I haven’t, I would advise him to call it a career sooner than later if he can financially afford it. Too many wrestlers have to stay longer than they need or should because of financial issues but I would be shocked if Edge even remotely comes close to that syndrome. Guys in Edge’s generation can easily take a look at previous generations of wrestlers to learn what NOT to do as it relates to their career and personal life style. Smart wrestles who work hard, get a break, and plan for their future by using a professionals help can often times comfortably retire from in ring wrestling by the time that they are in their 40’s.

- Emailers are congratulating me on my new ‘contract’ with WWE….I do not have a ‘contract’ but am a regular employee like many people who are not TV talents. That arrangement works just fine with me BTW. Plus, no one should feel badly that I’m not on weekly TV any longer. I don’t feel bad about it and neither should you. I feel confident that I will do selected, talent work with WWE in the future but just not on a weekly basis.
