Regarding Ricky Steamboat’s health, he is expected to make a full physical recovery but will never wrestle again. The WWE Hall of Famer has been able to work out on an elliptical machine, but is prohibited from lifting anything heavier than five pounds.

Jim Ross is back with another blog on jrsbarbq.com. Here are some highlights:

- Apparently a long awaited DVD on the career of the great, WWE HOF’er Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat will be released in June. Being on a medical leave of sorts really is a bummer for many reasons not the least of which being not involved in projects such as this one. Ricky is one of my all time favorites and his matches with Ric Flair, among many others, are simply timeless classics. Their 1989 NWA Title Bout in Chicago that I had the privilege of calling is one of my favorite nights on the job.

- Yes, there are some good teams still competing today but not the number of outstanding teams like there was in previous generations. While many may point to the fact that some decision makers are not ‘tag team people,’ I look at the overall lack of quality depth in the business as a culprit as well. More talents that can get it done on a high level in the ring will equate to more teams being created. Personally, I am a fan of quality, tag team wrestling.

- Recent video packages on new wrestlers that have aired on TV in the past couple of weeks have been well done. I can recall when Bill Watts aired 4-6 weeks of well produced vignettes of the Rock ‘n Roll Express, I think that Jerry Lawler produced these vignettes, before Morton and Gibson made their debut in Mid South Wrestling and by the time that R ‘n R physically arrived they were stars. Point being is that systematic and well planned video introductions help any talent, no matter their skill level, to better connect with the audience.

Reports from WWE's house show event in South Carolina confirm that a fan charged after Chris Jericho prior to his match with Ricky Steamboat.

As Jericho was cutting a heel promo on the crowd, a fan rushed the ring, presumably to attack the wrestler. According to live reports, the fan made it farther than expected but got caught on the ropes trying to enter the ring and was, at that point, escorted by event staff.

PWInsider.com reports that while the fan was handcuffed backstage, he actually called out to some of the wrestlers in search of autographs.

Chris Jericho noted on his Twitter, "A fan hit the ring during my promo before my match in Greenville...things did not turn out well for him."

As previously noted, Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Steamboat has been added to the Backlash card. This is a complete 180 on the mindset of last week, when WWE told everyone not to even mention Steamboat’s name on the air because he was done as a character.

Ric Flair will likely be inducting Ricky Steamboat into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. The rumor going around WWE, while not confirmed, is that Vince McMahon will be inducting Steve Austin. Given the history Austin and McMahon have, it fits.

Haven't had a chance to say much about the latest WWE DVD - Nature Boy Ric Flair - The Definitive Collection, but here is my take on the set that was released about two weeks ago. I think it's a pretty solid collection, with my favorite part being the first disc, which is about a two hour breakdown of Flair's HOF career.

Put time aside to watch the entire documentary in one sitting, as it's easy to enjoy the rise of Flair from the days of being chubby trying to find himself early in his career to basically becoming the reborn version of "The Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers. Flair found himself to the point where he was able to turn himself around early in his career, and took "The Nature Boy" character to new heights.

It also has some great background about his time in WCW, mostly dealing with the run with the Four Horseman and then after things fell apart there was a lot about how the company basically used him as a whipping boy for the last few years of his time there, and he talked a lot about how out of control things were at the very end.

The WWE highlights are also en tact, with his legacy leading all the way up to the end of his time in the ring to the eventual retirement match with Shawn Michaels at WM 24. Lots of good backstage stuff that you'll never see anywhere else. They also have on the second disc (I believe that's the disc it's on) the final night on RAW after WM 24 when the entire roster gave him a "Thank you Ric" chant. They also show off the camera stuff where Taker and Vince McMahon come out the ring, stuff they didn't show on TV on USA Network that night.

I'm not that big into watching old matches that I've seen before, but I will say that some of the Flair vs Ricky Steamboat stuff on the discs is priceless. The match with Kerry Von Erich is also one you have to watch again. I also enjoyed the 1991 match between Ric and his good friend, Roddy Piper, which was Flair's first match at Madison Square Garden.

Bottom line, if your a Flair fan, this is a must, or just a wrestling fan in general, you should pick this up. The first disc I think is worth the $20-$25 you'll find this for at most stores. The rest is just solid wrestling that you'll love to pop in now and again for fun.
