Backstage Update on WWE's New Hollywood Initiative
From: WrestleScoop.com
WWE hiring these new Hollywood writers for the creative team is their attempt to position themselves as a part of Hollywood as another way to upgrade the overall company image. This goes back to the hiring of Kristen Prouty to head Celebrity Relations. Prouty was behind bringing Kevin Federline to RAW back in 2006 to work the angle with John Cena. Her job is to accommodate the celebrities when they work with WWE and make sure they have everything they need and are taken care of. She was also responsible for bringing all the celebrity videos to WWE.com which led to WWE using her as a part of the recruiting process for the creative team.
Vince McMahon wants the writing team to be "well balanced" as he wants the TV industry to see that WWE hires top level writers. The feeling is that Brian Gewirtz, Ed Koskey and Michael Hayes, the head writers, don't fit into that description. Gewirtz was an assistant writer with MTV before joining WWE nearly ten years ago though. WWE is now spending big money to get Hollywood writers and not people who have minor experience.
