A show of whatevers
It seems we are reverting back to the old ways on the WWE's television programs. Since the New Year has begun Raw, ECW and now Smack Down have been fairly unimpressive. I'm not sure if this is caused by the holding pattern we are in due to the Royal Rumble. Since the winner gets a title shot at Mania, it's understandable most programs are put on hold to keep the outcome of the Rumble a secret. Unfortunately this has caused some unimpressive match ups and poor network broadcasting. So onto tonights commentary of lack luster matches and dull plots.
Chuck Palumbo and Jamie Noble revisited their ongoing feud. Noble again was the victor. Please let this end. Plaumbo was terrible in WCW, was terrible as Billy Gunns tag/life partner and still is horrible. There is nothing that can be done to make this guy interesting. Why do you think he has Michelle McCool with him? At least the fans can get some eye candy to look at, because the action in the ring is as interesting as reading your auto insurance policy.
We were also treated to another thrilling match with Mark Henry. This time he teamed up with Matt Striker against the Undertaker. The Taker had revenge on his mind from last week as he was screwed out of beating the clock by Striker. As the Ref, Striker refused to count to 3 for the pin so the Taker would be the leader in the time for the beat the clock qualifier. Of course the Taker won but not without big Daddy V interfering. Thankfully he showed up. As a big man, V does a decent job of bringing a good old fashion slug fest to the ring and tonight he helped to mask Henry's poor performance.
MVP took on Batista in a warm up to MVP's match with Rick Flair at the Rumble. Let me say Batista did a great job of making this match personal, as he was defending the honor of his friend Flair. He came out and cut off MVP while the US champ was mic bashing Flair. Though Batista did not go on the mic himself, you could read his lips and see it in his actions pre, during and post match, that he had a score to settle with MVP. The match was pretty good also. I'm not sure what they have in store for Batisa, but a program with MVP would not be a bad idea after watching these two tonight. Both guys have done tremendously for themselves over the last year, and program together will only raise their level even more.
Kane took on Domino. Why, who cares, whats the point, etc....? All of these would be an accurate description of this match. And not to ruin it for everyone, Kane destroyed Domino. Please WWE, put Kane in a better program. He has been a great worker over the years and deserves better than this.
Now onto the event I know we were all holding our breath on,Ranjin Singh and Hornswoggle in an arm wrestling contest. Horny would win courtesy of Finlay's help via an electrified grip for Singh. Khali would then kick and bust open Finlays head with a big ol' boot. The only thing of interest was supposed deal between Vince and Finlay. Hopefully it entails being put into a decent program. Much like Kane, Finlay is a great worker, just look at his last matches with Mystreio, but seems to get stuck with the garbage of the roster. We will have to see how this plays out, but I'm guessing there will be a title shot on a Smack Down.
Finally we saw Mysterio and Chavo in match put together by Vickie. These gentleman opened the show questioning her relationship with Edge, but who can blame them. So to punish them for their insolence they would face each other. The match was good as we have seen these men compete before, but we all no its not going anyware. Chavo is involved with CM Punk on ECW and Mysterio most likely will be in a program with MVP. Mysterio won but was assaulted by Edge, and his cronies Hawkins and Ryder adding fuel to their match at the Rumble. As I said earlier, a night of really nothing happening. Hopefully this changes after the rumble as we fast approach Wrestle Mania.
