English Fans Get the Two Fingers From Smack Down

For those of you not familiar with the English version of the one finger salute here in the States, just take the peace sign and turn it backwards. That's exactly what the WWE did to it's English fans on this trip. Raw actually was decent, ECW was it's usual self, but to have such a lame show for Smack Down is nothing but insulting to the loyal English fan base. Other than the main event, all the other matches were jokes. They were the type you reserve for house shows, not a TV brand, especially when you travel overseas to a fan base that rarely gets to see the product live. With no draft forthcoming and the next pay per view only a week away, shouldn't there be more development of programs. To have these dull matches makes no sense, and is especially insulting to the fans overseas.

Let's break down what happened on Friday. Chris Jericho now is trying to build heat for the HBK and Batista match because the sticking up for Rick Flair angle was not working, especially with two fan favorites. So now we bring in Jericho, for no apparent reason, to question both the competitors integrity. You know he will interfere at Backlash, thus cheapening the whole angle.

I have to feel sorry for the Big Show as he now gets to be linked with WWE dullards the Great Khali and Mark Henry. This is only done by default, due to the Shows size. Yes the match did have some heat generated by having Khali interfere, but the Big Show is so much better than both of these other giants. As I have stated many times before, the WWE needs to cut its loses with Henry and Khali. They will never make it big, the fans hate them, and they should step aside and let other wrestlers have their shot.

Please let the Hornswoggle and Finley antics stop. Again it was comedy fest against Matt Striker with a bunch of squirt guns gags. I know the fans still seem to be into it, but do you really think that will last until next year, or even next month for that matter. Finley is a better wrestler than this and really doesn't need a dumb gimmick. Let it die and move on already.

Do they really think Cherry is going to make it as an in ring Diva. I'm not sure about this push on so many levels. First she does not look like she knows what to do in the ring. Granted that can be taught, but does anyone really care about her enough? Which leads me to my second point, she was basically an accessory to Deuce and Domino, who are not making much noise, so why do they feel she needs to break out on her own. It's not like when Lita left Essa Rios. Lita had talent and a following, but nobody cares about Cherry.

In the lame matches leading up to title shots at Backlash, both Chavo and MVP took on minor talent in Jamie Noble and Tommy Dreamer respectively. Not a great way to build heat for those title shots, but a sure fire way to get the fans out of their seats. To use the restrooms that is.

I will have to give them credit at least for the main event. You have to think they will put Batista back into the Heavy Weight title fold for post Backlash story lines. He is way to popular to be kept out of the mix for too long. Now we have him in a title shot next week with the winner taking on Edge at Backlash. Of course it will be the Undertaker, but next weeks match will most likely pave the way for fatal 3 way at Judgement Day. I like what all three of these guys bring to the ring, so it could be very interesting to see how they work this.
