Smack Down Layed Upon Mania

Unlike like Raw and ECW, Smack Down tonight did a great job prepping us for Mania. The matches tonight where entertaining and did a great job building momentum for Mania. This is what is needed to keep the excitement level at a high going into the weekend before the big show. This was sorely missing from the other two brands so this was a breath of fresh air.

The night started off with a mini battle royal featuring Kane, Khali, Mark Henry and Chuck Palumbo. These guys would have to be the favorites to become the number one contender for the ECW belt and we got a taste of what the 24 man battle royal will look like at Mania. Henry came away with the victory tonight, but was jumped by Chavo at the end. This was to no avail as Henry would slam Chavo into the canvas big time. If this is what will transpire at Mania, then it may be the match you want to use the restrooms during.

We had a couple of Money in the Bank previews tonight. The first featured old ECW rivals CM Punk and John Morrison. The chemistry was a bit off on this one, but they still had some big moves. The win would go to Punk, further emphasizing his place as the favorite to win this match come Mania. And in a champion vs. champion match, we saw Chris Jericho take on MVP. This was a great match and these guys have some good stuff together. I don't know how the WWE can get these guys together, but they need to some time soon as it would be great. Especially for MVP. He most likely will find himself back in a feud with Matt Hardy, but his match tonight and previous ones with Batista show he deserves better competition. Since Mania last year MVP has raised himself to the big time.

As for Batista he put a good whooping on Snitsky tonight. The match was fairly quick, but Batista demonstrated how determined he is to prove Smack Down is the best brand. After the match ended he brought a chair into the ring and but the Batista bomb on Snitsky onto the chair.

The Divas went at it tonight after Eve Torres was eliminated from the competition. So in order to make all the ladies happy Teddy Long put togther a water fight match. Of course this was just another excuse to get the Divas in some wet a wild action. Michelle McCool and Cherry defeated Victoria and Maryse in a wild water balloon and squirt gun affair.

Another battle royal preview match saw a six man tag match with Cade and Murdoch with the Miz face Jesse, Festus and Koffi Kingston. Finally we got to see Kingston face some real competition and I must say he looked good. He did not get many opportunities in the ring, but the few chances he had were pretty good as he showed he can still keep his high flying antics fresh and exciting. It will be interesting to see what this year has in store for him. Hopefully good things as his style is very refreshing to say the least.

The highlight of tonight was the burial of the 15-0 streak of the Undertaker by Edge. The ring was decked out like a funeral parlor and Edge gave the eulogy to one of wrestlings greatest streaks. The Dead-man would have the final say as he rose out of the coffin in the ring and preceded to chase Vickie out. But not before putting a few shots on Edge and his cohorts Ryder and Hawkins. The final word was delivered via the tombstone on one of the Edge Heads. This angle seems to be having the most momentum out of the two major championships and is looking to be one of the best matches on the card.
