Tonight the Undertaker put his stamp on being ready for Wrestle Mania. He had the audacity to interrupt a match between Big Daddy V and Balls Mahoney to make his intentions clear he means business. All-right, he really saved us from a snoozer between those two, as he chased V out of the ring and choked slammed Mahoney . This would lead to his match against Zach Ryder in which he choked him out with his new submission move. Edge and Hawkins would try and intervene to stop the bloody display, but the Hawkins would meet the same fate as his compatriot. With this new vicious streak and brutal submission move for the Undertaker I expect the match at Mania to be a bit bloody. Both Edge and the Undertaker had some memorable moments in the past two Mania's that will be hard to top. Batista and Undertaker last year was most likely the match of the card, if not the year in many peoples opinions. And Edge has been busted through a ladder last year and throw into a flaming table two years ago. Both these guys will need to ramp it up to match these high expectations and this match could become a brutal blood fest.
Speaking of Mania, we learned tonight what most, including yours truly, predicted to be Batista's opponent for the show. He lobbied tonight to take on Umanga in the Raw vs. Smack Down match. This should be a great match-up of two athletically gifted big men, and I 'm looking forward to see if they can deliver. As for Batista's action tonight, he teamed up with Kane to go up against MVP and Khali. This match was not very good and lacked any real pace. Most of this can be blamed on Khali who is just not very good in the ring, but all the other parties involved didn't seem to mesh very well. Kane and Batista would win, but we will see MVP and Batista next week. I like these guys working together, but I feel they are wasting a good pairing by having them face each other so much right now. I feel this would be great program after Mania, but if we keep seeing it each week, it may not have enough legs to continue. That would be a shame as both of these guys are doing great to establish themselves, and a feud with each other will only push them further.
Tonight also featured Palumbo/Noble 58. Yes I know they haven't faced each other that much, but it sure feels like it. The match was a long one for each of these guys, but was not overall boring. It featured a good mixture of Noble's athleticism and Palumbo's brute force. My only problem is do we want to keep seeing this week after week. Yes it's nice we get some eye candy by throwing Michell McCool into the mix, but this is getting tiresome. Noble is a great light heavyweight who works well with those in his class, while Palumbo does not impress me one bit. I just am not excited by his ring presence and view him as an average wrestler at best. I really don't see this evil and enraged gimmick working for him.
Sidebar: Yes McCool is some nice eye candy, but she's not my top diva. That will still be you Mickie James. Still waiting to see if that date I proposed will happen. You guys will be in Cleveland next week and that's my hometown so give me a call. You all though it was giving up this angle didn't you. But just like Jamie Noble I keep on trying despite the odds. And no I'm not a crazed stalker. Just having some fun here. If a guy can make a movie about trying to get a date with Drew Barrymore, I can try to do the same with this blog and see what happens.
Back to the matches. Specifically the tag matches. Again Yang and Moore showed why they should be the ones challenging for the WWE tag titles. They looked impressive again tonight while taking on Deuce and Domino. These guys have so much excitement they can even make a match against the dull Dice Clay wannabes great. Come on already and give these guys the chance they deserve. Speaking of the champs, Miz and Morrison, they were again not defending their titles against Jesse and Fetus. They would lose, but does it matter. If you don't defend the belts it doesn't matter if you win, lose or draw. Instead they will go up against Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney on ECW next week. Come on, this is such a waste of time for both Miz and Morrison. These guys should be developing their talents individually, but if you must put them together at least have them in meaningful matches.
