ECW Preview Tonight
ECW felt it needed to get in the game tonight of previewing upcoming Mania and Smack Down matches tonight. And doing so it made for a decent night of TV. Other than Kofi Kingston's opponent, all the other matches features decent superstars as far as ECW is concerned. For once I can say I enjoyed the program from start to finish.
It started off with what will most likely be two of the competitors at Mania in the Battle Royal for a chance to meet Chavo for the title. We saw Kane put a beating on Elijah Burke that no doubt pushed Burke further back in the eyes of those in the WWE. Nothing special in this one as it was Kane just using his brute force to get the win. One has to wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Burke. Last year at this time he was the future of ECW. Now he can't even beat Festus. In one more year I don't think he'll even be in the WWE.
Kofi Kingston wins again tonight against less than stellar competition.. When will they finally push this guy and let him face somebody of note? If you need to kill off Burke at least let him go out facing an up in coming star like Kingston. Until Kofi faces some real talent I feel the jury is still out on him. Tonight it even seemed as if the crowd is tiring of his act as there was little response to his entrance. If they want him to become a big player they need to push him soon as the crowd is sick and tired of the weekly stiff fest.
In tag competition we saw CM Punk with Jesse and Festus meet Shelton Benjamin and Miz and Morrison. Punk and Benjamin will meet in Money in the Bank and on Smack Down Jesse and Festus will try to claim the tag belts from Mix and Morrison. This match featured the most talent tonight and was not bad to watch. Festus provided the bull dog style of wrestling while all the other brought an athletic game to the table. Given the crowds reaction to CM Punk tonight you have to see him moving off ECW soon and the favorite to win money in the bank. One angle that has yet to develop is a rift between Miz and Morrison. You would think they would go this way, especially after Morrison beat Miz last week to qualify for Money in the Bank.
In the wash of the night Chavo beat resident whipping boy Colin Delaney in an ECW contract match. If Delaney would have won he would have received an ECW contract and became part of the show. Now for a guy who does not have a contract, Delaney gets more air time than ECW members Mike Knox, Kevin Thorn and Nunzio combined.
